New Windows/Linux F@H SMP clients available

See the F@H download page.

Current beta expires July 1st apparently. The version number is the same, the expiry date's just been changed.

Edit: See further down thread for Linux details

Thanks Arachne but i think i'll stick to Linux. If it's not broke don't fixed it.

Unless of course it's faster

Well whadya know. Apparently there's a new Linux SMP client out too, the current one also expires on July 1st - see this thread for details.

Guess I'd better update the thread title

How strange.
I updated the Linux client yesterday and it submitted a WU about 1 hour ago. My profile now shows this as an extra CPU.

What the...?

I updated my Windows one the other day (when I posted this thread). Haven't looked at my profile though, and can't at present 'cos they're doing an update

Edit: Mind you, your processor's just a little bit different to mine

Edit 2: Nope, just the one CPU here!

@rolling
There are two files in the archive, just decompress them to your F@H working directory.

Here's the extra CPU screenshot.

Re: New Windows/Linux F@H SMP clients available

Updating the Windoze one was pretty easy. Install the new F@H to a different directory, then copy two files from the new install to your "regular" F@H directory. Job done.

Looks like the Linux one's just as easy, if not eaiser.

Hey Dee, can I borrow that extra CPU for a few days? LOL

But it's all going in under the same username...so I wouldn't worry about it (unless there's something drastic I'm missing, which is probably the case LOL).

Nah nothing drastic. I thought at first the phantom had struck again and donated another WU, until i noticed PC2 had sent a WU.

Just FYI, you can also just install right over the top of the old one as well. When it asks you if you want to uninstall the old version, just say no & install. At least that worked for me.

Mine worked fine.
Just killed the client .. extract the two files directly over the top of the existing .. restart the client .. continues from the same point

I noted yesterday that they claim the SMP client does not have checkpoints & cannot resume a partially completed WU ... I beg to differ

Yeah, the F@H SMP FAQ has a "last updated on March 17, 2007" foot note and the properties of the "read me.rtf" show a matching modification date.
There's also (i think) a mention that the SMP can't be used as a service despite the (i assume more modern) contradicting info elsewhere.

New F@H Windows SMP client available

According to this thread at the F@H forums.

The current Windows SMP beta expires at the beginning of October.

Go get it.

Edit: Just to add, I linked to the thread and not the download page, because only one file needs updating (fah.exe), and someone's posted a link for just the one file in there <
