That was one of the scariest experiences of my life...

While she had cancer, my Uncle also died two weeks before my birthday...it was horrible for her. I remember my uncle from when I was 3, but I never really knew him. That's sad.

It really sucks, doesn't it. My dad died of cancer about 5 years ago, and it was one of the most traumatizing experiences of my life.

Needless to say, I just downloaded the Client software, and am a full supporter of their project.

It feels good helping people.

I agree with that line of thinking, especially after I got my new Rolling Stone today. Anyone else read the article in the back about "bug chasers". Gay guys who think getting AIDS will be erotic...I think I'm going to be sick

This program is getting on my nerves more and more. I'm on dialup, and when I am offline, but the program needs new data to crunch, it connects to the internet all by itself! A few days ago I was online for 1,5 hour just because it needed new data and I didn't notice it connecting (was away from computer). Does anyone know if there is some sort of option to turn autoconnect to the server off? I'm on the edge of deinstalling the program, it's getting highly annoying.

this is a great project and I am proud to say that I am a member of the cdfreaks team. This software really does seem to have no effect on the performance of my computer, and I would encourage people to install it.

*shakes head* It's not UD's fault that you set your modem's dial-up option to auto connect when any program needs it. You could've easily checked Internet Options > Connections and chose either Never dial a connection.

Why don't the links work anymore?? Like on Dee-Ehn's profile, it says that the page cannot be found? It redirects, but it does not appear to be the right "team"??

Heh, that's quite a stupid question =) Of course they have to be smarter (i.e. technologically more advanced) than us, because they reach us via their space ships. We cant even travel too far because of the radiation that would kill us q.e.d.

First, as said, tick "never dial a connection".
But then, you would want to check out a neat little proggie called UD monitor. It is a program that allows you to have several work units on your PC and process them all, without the need to go online in between. I use it myself, works like a charm.

There is also a UD Monitor support thread over at the Grid.org forum.

There are some other apps you could try as well, but I have not tried any of the others.

Unfortunately the cancer research is gone and has been replaced by a search for vaccines against " potential bioterrorism weapon". Since things like smallpox exist only in American facilities like the CDC , the only country that can use it is the USA itself . This said I will spend my spare CPU cycles on SETI than helping the American government in their megalomaniac plans.

Mine is still working on the cancer program! You can manually change it I think.

Re: Join us to fight cancer!

Go to www.klov.com and check out the lymphoma cancer patients if that hits home with you. They are a very active bunch of posters about that subject. It's very sad to read some of their posts (a few folk have obviously died over the years). But then, some have had success stories.

Nobody likes a board about something serious and you get one post every couple of days.... THAT is not the place like that.

I didn't think I'd begin to think of ways to overcome cancer this soon, but we are only mortals.

I will use this oppertunity to thank everybody for sharing there computerpower in the battle against cancer. For me it will be to late but let's hope that in the near future more and more people can be cured. It's nice to know that there are still al lot of good people out there in this world
