Re: Folding with Linux SMP under VMware

@Rolling
4gig ram certainly makes life good.
I think XP only see's 3 though, but saying you have 1gig for vmware that leaves you with a full 2gig for XP.

Careful with your overclock though, adding an extra 2gig had me reducing the FSB by 10Mhz to get the machine stable again.

Thank you once again Dee for the advice I'll mess with it tomorrow. I think i read somewhere i'll end up with 3.5 with my 32 bit XP but i could be wrong.

@Arachne one more thing. Like you would with loading any OS defrag the drive it's on when you get it all loaded. Makes it run a lot faster.

Re: Folding with Linux SMP under VMware

ok another question for whomever that can explain

I added 2 more gigs of ram so 4 total now and when i load up TAT, core #2 is grayed out. Why is that? I open up task manager and both cores are running. I set my bios to default 2.4 and it's still grayed out. Any hopefully good comments?

Must be from the VMware. I just took out the 2 sticks of RAM i put in and it still has core #2 grayed out. I never looked at it after i loaded VMware and Ubuntu. This is the first time i looked at TAT since.

Well that blows for people with Vista 64. Maybe they will update TAT. I was just wondering if i have a hardware failure or something but both cores are running fine. Oh well maybe zevia has an answer. Thanks Dee.

Re: Folding with Linux SMP under VMware

Seems to run faster if i bump it up a little rather than having 4 gigs of ram

2 gigs for now. I think i need to change some bios settings when using 4 gigs. I tried to drop my fsb like Dee said but it still ran kind of slow. I'll mess with it more when i shut down next.

Ah. I'm dying for zevia or crossg or someone to explain what's up with your second core though.
