Re: Folding@Home

There should be an option on VMWare to install the VM tools.
It will place a VM CD file on the ubuntu desktop. Double click it to open, then double click on the .tar.gz file. Extract the files and select the desktop as the location.

You should now have a folder on the desktop called vmware-tools-distrib

Open terminal and type the following exactly line for line hiting return after each line.

sudo bash
(enter your login password for ubuntu and hit return)
cd Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
sudo ./vmware-install.pl

Thank you Dee for your time. I finally got it running.

Now i need to know how do you open it up after logging on. I have it set to start when i open Ubuntu but i don't see it anywhere

Re: Folding@Home

I think i'm just a moron when it comes to Linux I knew what i was getting into before Dee talked me into it but i feel like i have to go to that terminal and be in a command prompt forever just to use 1 thing (for now)

Anyway i still need to setup this from 5a on the tut:

sudo sh -c "cd /home/rolling56/FAH; ./fah5 -local -forceasm -verbosity 9"

I know i need to put in my user name but what to put in where the folder is this needs?

I guess i should throw in my other 2 gigs of ram to help out the slowness? Or do you guys know a tweak or two.

Huh?
It just says to create a directory in your home folder called FAH.
Then execute program as ./fah5
But, since they've done everything as a super user (bad way to do things) you have to be a super user to run the program.

Smart would be to use chmod +RWX on the FAH folder so you can excute it as a user.
