based on this and a few other forum reviews, it performed only as good or worse than the ultra-120 Extreme. Also, it is one of the heaviest HSFs out there and while Thermalright makes great heatsinks, the mounting hardware isn't the best.
I've actually been quite impressed with the mounting. It's a proper rear & front bracket & then the heatsink mounts onto the top bracket via a pair of springs, which can be adjusted.

I'm glad to hear it is working out for you. How is the heatsink with dust accumulation? Or do you not live in a dusty place. My place is a disaster with dust so I have been looking at heatsinks for new computers but it's hard to know which will turn into clogged, useless hunks of metal after two weeks.

I have the same problem here with dust. Our house in next to open fields and the amount of dust that gets blown in from the fields is amazing. I found a solution though. A ThermalTake Armor case. It has sponge like filters on the air intakes. I clean them once per week and inside the case stays amazingly clean.
That doesn't keep the house free from dust though. So it's a constant losing battle to keep the house clean.

My case only has a thin material (like the spongy cover you get on cheap earphone buds).
It's not a particularly dusty environment, but after about 5 weeks operating, a quick inspection shows it's starting to pick up little dust - nothing like the dust-cakes I've managed on my older fan facing down heatsinks.

Also keep in mind, I'm only running a single low RPM 140mm fan .. approx 60CFM, so if you are hardcore and intend to run 100CFM 120mm fans, the dust buildup could be quite shocking, especially if you run multiple fans - I can't ... I've run out of room, in my little mini-tower case

Grats debro! Don't think I can even dream of such numbers.

Embarrassing and almost...pathetic...as it is, watch out 32nd place, here I come!

One thing that interests me also though is team progress through the rankings. We seem to be hovering around this level but we've gone from 340 to 336 in about a week (I think) so could this be some sort of movement upwards?

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

Yeah, I got the server up and running again, so I no longer need to leave my main rig on 24/7

The athy x2-3800 just can't compete with a slightly overclocked Q6600

From memory ... the X2-3800 overclocked to 2.4Ghz cranks out a single small SMP unit every 36hrs (ish)
My Quad6600(2.4Ghz) @3Ghz cranks out 2x Large SMP (2xsimultaneous clients) every 24 hours(ish).

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

Your Q6600 running two Windows SMP clients simultaneously? Hmm I might try that.

Currently my Q6600 @3Ghz fold around 9-ish mins per frame or about 15-16 hours per project (usually project 2653). So about 32 hours for 2 projects.

If I can get like yours, 2 projects every 24 hours that would be interesting.

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

A single Client only seems to use about 70-80% of the available CPU time.
2 clients uses about 90-95% CPU time ...

Technically, you could run a third client to further use up spare CPU time ... but then you'd probably be pushing >30hrs for 3 units ... the payoff starts to be minimal.

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

Just started two FAH on my Q6600 @3Ghz. They take 17:30 mins each to reach 1%, so about 29 hours for both projects. Not as close as yours (24-ish hours) but still saves about 2-3 hours from previous.

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

hows the 2x smp going on the quad zevia?

I did find a program that might help you and debro (and anyone else running 2x smp on an intel quad) get ~1000 extra ppd it basically automatically sets the affinity on each client to only run on one die to avoid FSB thrashing and slowdowns

heres the thread over at the folding forums

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=1566

hmm, I read a few more posts in the thread and it seems to work with dual cores too I'll have to give it a try if I ever get my fx up and running again

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

It's got .. issues. if you run other (cpu intensive) apps at the same time, and will (not *may* .. WILL) decrease your PPD.

Regardless, it's windows based & won't help me .. I'm running linux.

And can someone actually tell me How the f@#K setting core affinity to a particular Die on a CPU will provide a benefit on a dual core CPU? There's only one Die!

I can vaguely understand it on on a quad core .. there are two seperate caches, and it will mean that each fah client goes to it's own seperate cache ...

But I'm still skeptical.

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

jwill, it was not running so well so I shut down the 2nd FAH.

When I had them, as my post above:

FAH1: 0-1% 17:30 mins
FAH2: 0-1% 17:30 mins,

then after a few hours when I checked again

FAH1: 30-31% 20+ mins
FAH2: 30-31% 17+ mins

So basically they are not stable. 20+mins equals 33.5 hours, this is longer than running 1 FAH and get two projects done in 32hrs normally.

Anway, I'm now trying the FAH Affinity Changer with 2 FAH clients and will let you guys know. Thanks for the link jwill.

Re: Folding@Home Milestones, Statistics and Member Achievements

WOW, the FAH SMP Affinity Change really works (at least from 30 minutes testing).

FAH1:
78-79% 15:04 mins,
79-80% 13:46 mins

FAH2:
0-1% 15:07 mins,
1-2% 13:35 mins

Let's say average 15 mins per frame = 15x100/60 = 25 hours for both projects! Down from 32 hours.

But be careful, I think the CPU usage is now REAL 100%, temperature increased from 58C to 68C, sometimes hits 71C!

Nay, just turn on that little speedstepping feature which is so useful for Core2 CPU's ... it'll automatically throttle back if the CPU gets too warm.

You have to turn it on in bios though.
