Re: Folding@Home

I pulled the board and set it up with no case, it was definitely dead. The manufacturer sent me an email yesterday stating they are sending a new board but they did not get into to much more detail.

I'm always getting 20,000,000 steps projects. Is there any way we can control which project to download?

Re: Folding@Home

Yes, you can deselect WU's that may return results larger than 5MB's.

But the standard WU's don't get you bonus points

Re: Folding@Home

I want to run the FAH at certain time (after hours, ie 10PM - 5AM) and thinking to set it in task schedule. I run two FAHs at once and they are in the system service now. Anyone knows the command line to start and stop the service(s)?

Re: Folding@Home

I'm not sure why you need to do that. FAH runs with Idle priority anyway (unless you specify otherwise in the configuration).
It won't affect normal computer use ..... However, you can set the fah client to use less RAM, and lower CPU (than 100%) if it is causing issues (aka, when playing games).

Read more here: http://fahwiki.net/index.php/There_a...nning_programs

Re: Folding@Home

yup, any time your CPU is needed by another program, fah will throttle back and only use the unneeded cpu cycles, I don't even turn fah off when I game (note: the graphical version does interfere with some games, but the console is fine) even Oblivion doesn't show any impact with fah running

Re: Folding@Home

I've been playing FEAR with the graphical edition and it works fine when both are going.

No GPU version for nVIDIA yet though.

I have a game here called Arcade Bubbles, and I can't run F@H and Bubbles at the same time, or Bubbles crashes. I have to shut down F@H first.

Re: Folding@Home

IIRC it is an issue with openGL where only one app can use openGL at a time, since the graphical version uses openGL, any game using openGL won't run at the same time, but since the console version doesn't use openGL anything goes

BTW, congrats everyone, the team has broken into the top 2000

we are now being tracked by EOC
(the numbers are a little skewed now since we just started getting tracked, but it should even out in a few weeks)

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=13505

next stop: top 1000

Man, the Joe_Dirt machine, (AMD K-6/2-450 W/ 256 megs ECC ram / Win 98) doesn't seem to be doing anything at all though it looks like it is. Can someone take a look at this logfile as see if something looks wrong? It's been crunching for 20 hours and this is all the logfile says:

Re: Folding@Home

Well, I changed the core priority to "Lowest Possible," and it seems to be acting better. It's still at 0%, but now it shows the pie chart and also says it's competed 179/20000 frames. That hasn't changed in the last 15 or 20 minutes though, so I don't think it just started processing frames, I think it just started reporting it correctly.

Remember, this is Win 98SE, Task manager is not the same as XP. Have to use the System Resource Meter. That reports System and User Resources both as 60% free, and the GDI Resources at 84% free. Hmmmm.

I don't see any option to use deadlineless WU's anywhere in the config menu. Where is it supposed to be? Again, I'm running Win 98 on this machine, so as a result I'm also running F@H client ver 4.00 built December 8th of 2003.

Oh, yes, all three of my machines run 24/7. I'm actualy looking for someone to donate this K/6-2 to anyhow, just haven't found the right home for it as yet, (and I'd better soon or NO-ONE's gonna have any use for the thing), but in the interum, I'd like to have it working on this.

Re: Folding@Home

I did a little more research, and your cpu should be fine with standard WUs, the WU it is working on now should finish in ~25 days running 24/7 and the deadline is 110 days, so there should be no problems, even if it runs a little slower than expected. also the deadlineless WUs are not always available, so its best to use standard WUs whenever possible

happy crunching

Re: Folding@Home

Hey, I really appriciate you looking into that for me! I thought the deadlines were ALOT shorter than 110 days, and really thought the WU's would finish a lot faster than a month or so. That's cool though. We be CHUNCHIN'!

Peace

Re: Folding@Home

no prob, glad to help! the 212x WUs are some of the longest and slowest out there, and they seem to be the most common now too. here is the page that shows all the point values and deadlines for currently active WUs

Re: Folding@Home

wow, just had my first class in 1 of the 2 new mac labs @ school, and damn that would make a nice little folding farm we're talkin ~60 (between the two rooms) quad core macs (2x 2.66ghz core 2 xeons) w/2Gb ram & pio 111d's, now thats a mac I wouldn't mind having can't wait to start rendering on them

unfortunately the tech guys have no interest in folding, they're trying to save power by shuting them down when not in use (yeah I guess that will save quite a bit o' power with all that horsepower under teh hood )

Re: Folding@Home

congrats to JBT_DK on submitting a good WU
I'm glad it was just software conflict and not a hardware problem
