Re: Folding@Home

@jbt_dk, could you post your F@H log file here when you get a chance? it may help find the problem causing the EUEs

you can find the log file by rightclicking the F@H icon on the task bar and selecting Status>Log file, and you can either attach it as a .txt file or paste it between [code] tags

thanks

Re: Folding@Home

Hi jwill427

I think this is what you need.

I am now running the console version 5.04beta but I don't think that helped.

Good hunting

Re: Folding@Home

Hi Debro

Maybe you are on to something there because I just started a Cisco VPN client and now I get fatal errors when folding

I wil try testing some more later on when I don't need my VPN anymore.

Hi debro & jwill427

I have now been folding almost 2 full days over the weekend without any visible errors so I think debro was right about the "Cisco VPN" confilct.

Thanks for your help and directions

Re: Folding@Home

Thanks jwill427, I had to add another P4 2.4c to catch him after I lost my A64 machine to MOS (my own stupididy). I'm waiting on a replacement motherboard. I guess that is one that I can't say that 'I have never done that' anymore about.

Glad to see us adding a member every week or to!

Is there a way to put this onto a computer not connected to the web? My other computer is much better.

Re: Folding@Home

Yes!
But it's annoying.
You can install the FAH on the web PC, run the installer & get the work unit & then Kill FAH.

Copy the FAH folder & all contents to the faster PC.
Create a shortcut to FAH in your Start->Programs->Startup and let it go

When it's finished. Kill FAH & then copy the FAH directory to the Web PC again & then run FAH on the webpc to submit results and get a new WU

Repeat as necessary.

Obviously, if the work unit finishes and you're not around to do the above process you've wasted CPU cycles.

Also be aware that WU's have deadlines (usually about a fortnight) so it has to be done at least every 14days, or you won't be creditted with the points.

Re: Folding@Home

Are you sure you have both the engine & the WU? It downloads both initially
Once it starts calculating, it doesn't need the server.

Re: Folding@Home

Yep. Made sure it was caculating before I closed it down.

On the "web" machine it was going to take 30 mins per frame. So for 500 frames it was going to be close to 250hrs processing time.

There ya go

Tested that on another Non-essential PC. And it seemed to work

Re: Folding@Home

@Womble, here is an article that goes into detail about "sneakernetting", it also explains how to set up some shortcuts to make sending and recieving new WUs as painless as possible

http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Sneakernetting

"The fundamental problem to be solved is How to process FAH WUs on non-internet-connected computers. (This is affectionately called sneakernet, meaning that the data is moved between computers by the person wearing shoes.)"

the article says to only use deadlineless WU's, but you should be fine with regular WUs as long as you don't forget to transfer them

Now I'm curious what you did.
I gave that PC to my son, but he wanted a Viper gaming case. In the process of doing a gut swap, The board died, probably static discharge but I really don't know. It worked great before I tried to move it to another case. I am waiting for the RMA right now, the board was only 5 months old. I can't count how many pc's I have build over the years and never lost a single one this way.

*off-topic*
A silly question, but you didn't leave in any spare mobo mounts on the mounting plate.

I had a friend that did that once, and it earthed *something* and seemed completely dead.
Worked again, once I whipped it out, and removed the excess mount though
