Re: Folding@Home

In the graphical client *shrugs* I'm sure there is a setting somewhere in the config.

In the CLI client .... "FAHXXX-Console -Config".

Re: Folding@Home

I can't find anything in the graphical client config...maybe it's time to switch to the CLI client LOL (been meaning to since you first mentioned it).

configure>connection>uncheck "allow WUs larger than 5MB" near the bottom (this is the default setting)

@Debro: the 400pt 21xx I mentioned IS a standard WU, I'm pretty sure you get bonuses for large WUs like you mentioned, but I can't test it on my A64 because my memory always chokes on the 24xx's and gives me EUEs

Re: Folding@Home

I can confirm the large WU bonus on my P4* atleast...after compleating a few cycles with the 400pt 2125, the ETA is slighly over 5 days whereas the 600pt 2411 it just finished had an ETA slightly under 5 days (closer to 4.5D IIRC), also the 153pt 1808/1809s take 2 days giving it ~3PPH with standard WUs and ~5-5.5PPH with large WUs

*this CPU does not have SSE 2, which is what f@h mainly uses

Re: Folding@Home

That be the case ...

CDFreaks wanted to be 56Ker friendly ... although those freaks visiting the site wouldn't want to denigrate themselves to that path

That said, it saves bandwidth

yeah, I can see where the forum is coming from there, but on the other hand, it is a 38k .png hosted elsewhere...not too bandwidth intensive, but whatev

BTW, congrats on your 100th WU

Re: Folding@Home

Woohoo!
That's a WeCent right there

38K x 20 people = 760KB .... if everyone has an attached image

If everyone had a 38K sig, it'd only take about 2 minutes for a 56Ker to load a basic forum page with peoples sig's, but not any attached images in posts, nor their avatars
If everyone has 30Mb/ 24Mb adsl, fine ... but 56Krs are sitting there waiting for images to come down

You'll just have to rely on your own personal wit for a good sig

I have a P3 900mhz processor that takes about a week running 24/7 to complete one of the 600 pointers( project number 2412 http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html ). I am running the console version. On a 2400mhz box, the same work unit takes 2 days.

Right, I've temporarily taken the client off my PC to try and track down some faults, and they have gone away either by coincidence or because the client was at fault, so I'm not sure what to do now...

Re: Folding@Home

Try an earlier client

If you are overclocking, you need to ask yourself:
Are these faults present & thrashing the CPU & RAM just makes them manifest themselves more readily?

To test: Download this and use the stress test (max: Heat & Power).

Well, windows kept on showing the stickykeys thing (5 shift presses) without me even touching a thing. Then I disabled the keyboard shortcut and the internal speaker on my PC would beep every few minutes. Very wierd...

Re: Folding@Home

Hi jbt_dk, thanks for posting you specs

an EUE (aka: Early Unit End) is a Work Unit that crashes due to instability and only credits you for the percentage that is useable, as you can see from your stats several WUs have been sent but only a few points have been credited indicating lots of EUEs

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...rname=JBT%5FDK

there is a more detailed explaination of EUEs here:

http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Early_Unit_End

Since you are folding on a laptop the problems could be caused by overheating, make sure the vents are not blocked and if possible try using a notebook cooler. Bad memory could be the problem too, download Memtest86 here and run it for at least 2 hours (overnight would be better) to check for memory errors

hope this helps
