What? Folding in general or a specific client?

Re: Folding@Home

Same here, the windows clients (SMP and non-SMP) does not slow down my system.

I noticed slow down when running VMWare + Ubuntu + SMP on my XP 32bit systems. The most noticeable slow down is during program startup, ie starting IE or FF will "wait" 5-10 seconds before the window appears. That's why I switched to Windows SMP client. However Dee-27 told me that she does not experience slow down, perhaps because she is using 64bit OS, which has better memory management.

The only one I noticed that caused any slowdown is the GPU client when opening most programs and/or windows.

The only way I could feel this sad now is if I felt something really good before. So I have to take the bad with the good. So I guess what I'm feeling is like a beautiful sadness.

Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.

The truth can be found here http://jhtalisman.blogspot.com/

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them-words shrink things that seemed limitless when in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for the want of an understanding ear. - Stephen King, intro to "The Body."

That's a good idea. Maybe these posts could be split off to a Linux Folding thread so it's easy to find for anyone else needing help.

(Maybe jwill would consider splitting it? )

wish me luck, I'm going in

Re: Folding@Home

Just a general question I'm hoping someone can answer

As I mentioned earlier, my net connection died as the client was attempting to send the results of my last WU.

In the Work folder, I have a results file for the WU (.dat), will that get sent?!

I always save another folder if I am around and close to the end of a wu and if it screws up I shut it down and copy the work and log folder over to the one that screwed up and it resumes from the point I saved it, Learned this from losing lots of WU's so far, I had a problem with the settings and Debro said don't use IE explorer setting and it fixed it but I lost the WU. It's a pain copying folders but it works.
If it doesn't want to copy go to the task manager and end process Smpd

you could try closing the client then restarting it, it should try to autosend all completed units

Arachne, backup the entire folder to another drive/directory, then run the client again from the original folder.
