Create a shortcut to the F@H client, right click and go to properties. Insert this as the target "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home 5.04\FAH504-Console.exe" -config substituting whatever drive letter that F@H is on for the C:\. This will also allow you to change the configuration anytime you start F@H.

Re: Folding@Home

@rolling56, you will need:

- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed, check with Control Panel's Add/Remove Program, if it's not there then update your Windows (windowsupdate.com)
- Your Windows login username and password: you will need a password and it's under admin privileges. If your login has no password (blank) it won't work.

After both steps above are done:
- run again install.bat, enter your Windows username and password.
- run FAH.exe, enter your FAH username (rolling56) and team 13505. For other questions you can just press enter.

Dee, 64bit Linux with VMWare can run on 32bit Windows XP as long as the CPU is 64bit (dual core, C2D, AMD 64bit etc).

I switched to Windows SMP beta client now since I noticed VMWare is slowing down the machine and took quite a lot of RAM resource, however it is very stable. The Windows SMP beta does not slow down my PC although it's not stable eq sometimes when restarting the PC it will start the project from 0% again.

I can't say i've noticed slowdowns in Vista, although i do have a lot of ram anyway.
Of the two smp clients, is the Linux one still the faster?

I notice the VMWare + Linux (Ubuntu 64bits) is still faster than the Windows SMP Client, only for C2D with 2M cache. But in E6600 with 4M cache, it's the same since and I think it is because the additional cache. Also VMware utilize only around 96% CPU while Windows SMP uses 100%.

But again the VMWare + Ubuntu 64bit is a lot more stable, the Windows Client --if you reboot your PC- may restart the project from 0% again. But to overcome this, before rebooting the PC I make a backup of the FAH folder.

Re: Folding@Home

ok for stability and for the sake of 4% CPU utilization, and the fact that the Windows smp client doesn't seem to like Vista 64. I'll stick with what i have.

I can using the GUI client. But then aren't you using the SMP one...in which case I don't know.

GUI won't work with my vid card.

Anyone else know?

Also can you close out F@H and restart what you were working on? Say if you need to restart your machine?

I think it depends on how complex the WU is your folding. 4% seems about right. The WU's i've folded so far take between 10 minutes 30 seconds to just under 15 minutes per 1%.
