According to the F@H forum, things *may* be back to normal.

Re: Folding@Home

I decided to try the Linux SMP client. I'm impressed.
Turned in a couple of high scoring WU in the last 36 hours.
This leaves the Windows client for dead.

Re: Folding@Home

I haven't been folding at all for weeks.
I got real pissed at the Windows client and i've been fooling around with several Linux distro's trying to find one i really like.
Running a distro in a Virtual Machine wasn't really an option under Vista Home Premium 64 bit. But now i have a Vista stable version of VMWare things are looking good.

Now if only CD-Speed and KProbe would run under Linux. I could dump Windows for good and wouldn't have to use VMWare at all.

well, i just got the Suse 10.2, dunno if i'm gonna install it any time soon, but, do you think that WINE would be any good for running CD-Speed and KProbe under Linux?.. you might try giving it a chance.. even though i don't think that it would handle that kind of emulation and transaction between the program and the drivers or the drive itself...

I tried CDspeed 4.01 (i think that was the version, definately a v4 anyway) and it didn't work on Suse 10.2.

Given that Ahead are now making nerolinux, perhaps we can petition them for a linux version of CDspeed

Re: Folding@Home

how didn't i think of that ... that should mean we have to talk to Erik Deppe, hoping that he can start working something out for Linux ... anyway, i'm totally naive if you ask me about programming, but i remember that there were some cross-platform programming language... that could be compiled according to the target OS... lets hope Deppe uses one of these ... as if it does exist in the first place...

Re: Folding@Home

Yes.. lets all hope that the computer world is like "Independance Day" where they program a computer virus on a Macintosh .... and upload it into an alien computer system and it is actually compatible and still trashes the system

Let that be a lesson to invading aliens ... don't use networked macintoshs as your mainframe.

Re: Folding@Home

did i just mention, being "Naïve"??! and YES, i remember someone talking to me about a programming language that has a compiler that can export to native Unix/Windows/MacOS executable formats... either that or he knows a nada about his Major in Programming!!

and i believe that, if aliens are clever enough, they would either use a Macintosh (the same dream i had yesterday, a Mac' based space ship that we used to track a hurricane!!!)... or they would use a Linux Client to cut off the expenses

Java & Javascript

CDspeed runs from Internet explorer ... or Firefox ... or Konquerer ... or Opera
Yeehaw!

Well with 7 mins per frame for project 2610, crossg should be able to get at least 3,000 points per day.
