I'm quite amazed that you passed me so quick.

But I'm setting up VMware + Ubuntu 64bit and lets see how it goes.

Well, I've no hope of catching some of you, but none the less, I'm having fun over here ploding away at it and moving up a little bit in the ranks anyway. #13/19 isn't too bad for a Joe_Dirt guy!

awesome! thats gonna help the team a lot I'm giving SMP a break this weekend to work on windoze a little, but it'll be back next week (its a long story, but somehow I mucked up the boot sector the first time I installed linux and had to re-install XP, of course after I reinstalled xp I found out I could have fixed it without wiping everything and reinstalling )

@Joe: thats what its all about, having some fun while curing diseases every contribution helps you be top 10 before you know it too

Well I didn't fold for two days playing around with VMWare and Ubuntu 64-bit. Had to rebuilt Ubuntu 3 times since there were networking problems.

But now I'm almost done with #2605 (1760 points!). 1 percent for about 12-13 mins or about 2000 ppd (points per day). SMP is quite a jump from the regular 32 bit client as I was only getting around 400-600 ppd with 2 instances open.

that time per frame is insane
I got a 2605 last week and it was doing 20min/frame

stanford has been having trouble with servers, I'm not sure if your problems are related to that, but its a possibility. also I've noticed that it can take anywhere from 20min to several hours to recieve credit for a sent WU

Re: Folding@Home

My work just bought me a new Dual core Lappie

Fah, Fah & Away!

And Dell have conveniently used the fastest part of my HD for a 10GB recovery partition, only 3 is used.

/me suspects a partition backup might be useful & a 10GB linux X64 install for SMP client

Re: Folding@Home

Hey all,

So I have been folding for a few weeks now, but long before I was part of the team, I was donating most of my CPU time to the world community grid (www.worldcommunitygrid.org).

To raise awareness and get more people to donate their spare CPU cycles, I am tempted to start a cdfreaks team. However, I don't want to take away any of the FAH team's efforts.

Anyway, I felt bad not posting here first. What do you guys think?

I agree! I'll be sticking with the F@H team myself, only having two modern CPU's to run. Perhaps if I had access to more machines, I'd split my efforts between more than one group.

Re: Folding@Home

Oooh! Naughty Laptop!
The default Power Saving Scheme allows it to drop back to 40% CPU speed when plugged in.

Power conservation is for wimps that can't take the heat!

Vote Yes to Global Wombleing

Re: Folding@Home

I just noticed that one of my WUs ended early. I forget exactly what frame #, something like 326/500. Anyone else run into this ever? Is there a reason for this?

haha, indeed
with two comps running fah the room stays fairly comfortable, but that 3rd one puts it over the edge or something and it gets f'n hot!

as for WCG, I'd be willing to split my CPU time between that and FAH (of course I'll probably stay biased towards FAH, but a good cause is a good cause, and they all deserve cpu time )

NVIDIA finally opened a BIG FAT door for math computation on their GPUs. Hopefully we'll have a new folding client soon!

Read that yesterday somewhere else. Although the version I read seemed to read "new graphics cards" not all.

Woohoo nearly top ten. Need more CPU's

I was for a short time then I had to stop folding due to Windows dying on me. So I thought I would use the time to try out Vista.

I'll be back at some stage.

Re: Folding@Home

Lol. Same here ... my main rig is busy playing with Vista & Kubuntu Linux ....
Linux hates me.

Ati drivers won't install & the FAH SMP client won't crunch any numbers!
My rig sat crunching nothing for two days while I wasn't watching it ... and it got nowhere Then the work unit timed out
