Yes, I'm in.

adict2jane, according to the stats, you've been folding for 5 years?!
Also it's only using the CPU 50%?

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

The cpu time is based on individual cpu time so if I have a quad core crunching for 1 day, it counts for 4 days.

I have been crunching for out team since 2/16/07

Are you using the UD client or BOINC? The UD client is only recommended for single core CPUs. BOINC will automatically use 100% (may take 5-10 mins to get work for both CPUs).

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

I guess this is the UD client? Kinda cool. So how do I get the Boinc and will it be faster?

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

Wow, that does look cool.

Boinc will be faster simply because it will utilize the full power of your cpus. Also, people have had problems losing progress after they shut the client down (ie 80% done, then shut down, restarted and back to 0%)

For the BOINC client go here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

after the installation, input this as the project URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
and then put in the username and password you already have.

Happy crunching and thanks again!

that's for the UD client, right?
i'm not sure if it's losing it's last checkpoint after shutdown, or is it a thing that happens ALWAYS and not in some cases? ... this is my first day here, so... waiting to see some progress by tomorrow... or should get the BOINC anyway ?

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

I'm a BOINC fan, much more work can get done over a period of time. I discovered that even with a single core cpu. Only 60% of it's spare cycles can be used with the UD client.

Check this out if you guys want to move over:

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

currently downloading, 37min estimated... and it's already 04:31 AM... i would only wait until it's done downloading, then install it, configure, then shut down... tomorrow i'll have more time to fold... right now, i'll fold myself inside my bed ... i think i'll be done folding -me- in a few hours

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

well, i think i'm gonna get myself out of the team ... i'm a Folding@Home Client (of Stanford Univ's project) and now this BOINC client is causing me trouble, other than 6 PC hangs and restarts during 48 hours, the overall performance of the PC has dropped down catastrofically.. even when i lowered the CPU usage of BOINC and limited it to idle times, i still witnessed a noticeable slowdown... i would only keep it until i finish the WUs i'm working on.. and then... i'm leaving you guys ..

it's been an honour joining you

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

Happy to have you on the team rolling56! At most you may lose a couple of % after shutting down BOINC.

headquarter84 - Sorry to see you go. Your slowdowns were probably caused by low memory (WCG and FAH will use quite a bit sometimes). Not sure why the crashes and restarts.

I'm having problems saving work with F@H but i am continuing to use it so i have both Bionic and F@H running now

I really like the 3D graphics using Bionic

me too .. i really loved the client, i was working on the AIDS Project... but after i got the client working my PC became unstable... i don't think it's the lack of RAM memory that causes the slowdiwns but the consumption of CPU processing power, as i have 1024MB of RAM performing on DualChannel 400MHz, anyway, it would be really a problem when i'm Folding on 2 clients, while copying a DVD, listening to music, and Photshopping ... which i do almost 70% of the time i spend on PC...
so, i'm gonna stick to F@H client, as it's "lighter" and less troublesome...

Re: CD Freaks World Community Grid Team

A neat little tool for anyone using the United Devices client wanting to control CPU usage (still only single cores however):
