What kind of CD marker won't damage CD? Here to list all the markers.

Hi. I'd like to know wat kind of CD marker won't damage CD/DVD. Wat I've heard is non-solvent based marker is the best.

However, I've heard a lot of mixed comment about alcohol type & solvent based marker are fine as well. Some said as long as it's stated specially for CD, then it's fine.

So, which kind of CD marker won't damage CD or DVD?

Btw, which CD marker falls below kinds of CD marker that's harmless? As some of the marker don't state their type & material. For my case, I've a CD marker of Faber-Castell Multimark 1523 permanent. It juz stated waterproof. So, is it fine? While another marker is Pilot CD marker. For this it stated Alcohol type ink.

Plz let me know the answers to these. Ur help will be greatly appreciated. Thx. ^^

I use any old marker, as long as it's specified for CDR.

Even the ones from the local supermarket work great. I also have some "posh" TDK ones.

Base on these 2 threads,

http://club.cdfreaks.com/1673714-post9.html

http://club.cdfreaks.com/395171-post8.html

It says that the marker have to be non-solvent based. Is alcohol type marker solvent-based? The marker stated it's for CD though.
It's Pilot CD Marker:
http://www.pilotpen.com.au/items.aspx?G=111&P=423

& another one is Faber-Castell Multimark 1523 permanent.
http://www.faber-castell.de/docs/ind...13129&m4=10957
I dunno whether this is solvent based or not.

In conclusion, we need to use non-solvent based marker to label CD? Is alcohol type marker safe to use? Are all marker specially for CD non-solvent based?

I'm more concerned about tiny flakes of matter from whatever marker I'm using flying off of a spinning disc and coating the lenses of my drives. Has anyone read anything about this issue?

I've never seen this with Sharpies. (alcohol based) I have some thusly marked CDRs that are many years old.
