Standalone CD Label Printer?

We're looking for a label printer that has the capability to read data from an already burned CD to get its label from. The reason why this is a requirement is because the data that will be on the cd is customer information that will shipped out to the customer, so each CD will be unique. As you would probably understand if the wrong label gets placed on the CD and it's sent to the wrong customer, it would be very bad. This is why we need a label printer that will get the data for the label from the CD itself. Ideally it would be great if we can get a device that will burn AND label the CD (not doing duplication as each cd WILL be different) but if there is no such device then just labeling the CD from a template or something stored on the CD would work just fine. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Re: Standalone CD Label Printer?

I'm not sure how good of a solution this is but if burning from a computer would work, you could get a light scribe drive. Light scribe uses the burners laser to print the image on a special disk. If you are working on one disk at a time it might help avoid confusion/mixups, though light scribe is certainly not a very time effective solution (I'm not sure how many or how often you would need to do this).

Re: Standalone CD Label Printer?

Yeah I was thinking about the LightScribe drives as well but it seems like my company is actually willing to fork out some money this time so I think I may have found the solution. Primera makes their Bravo line of cd dup and labeling supplies and I spoke with someone in their sales office. Apparently they have an SDK that'll allow you to basically dump scripts into a watch directory which then will burn and label it exactly how you specify in the scripts. It'll allow you to make duplicates or make each CD unique.

Sounds expensive but hey, if they are willing to pay for it, why not get the best you can?
