Software to print DVDs on HP D5160?

I have been using neato compatible paper stock labels for a long time on my disks. 3 months ago, I got an HP D5160 for real cheap a Compusa that was going out of business. The printer has been realy reliable, and it has CD/DVD printing capability, which I have never used.

I have been having a lot of trouble with labels lately, and it is time to re-order more media and labels. I would like to start buying the inkjet printable media, now that I have a printer that can do it.

Problem is this... I really have gotten used to an old version of Nero Cover designer (v2.2) for creating labels. It came bundled with a Nero 6 package that came with a burner I had a long time ago. I can't figure out how to specify the correct stock, so that the CD/DVD tray will print correctly.

The users guide that came with the printer wants me to use thier "HP Photosmart Premier" software to do it. The software is really slow on my Win2k 1.6Ghz machine with only 384MB of ram. It is also designed to take over all of your imaging tasks. This is probably going to cause conflicts with the Kodak Camera software I have, that also wants to take over all graphics related tasks.

I am used to being able to open a jpeg, select the whole image, and paste it into Nero Cover Designer, then print the label. The HP software won't let me insert a graphics image, unless it is managing the jpeg file. No simple copy and paste operations are allowed.

What I am hoping for is some way to get the Nero to print to the HP D5160 DVD tray. Nero allows the importation of new paper stocks, so maybe I just need to find the correct paper stock that will trick the printer into printing from nero.

What I would settle for is a less complicated software package to create labels. I would need to find a package that can run with only 512mb of ram, at a usable speed.

Don't know if they support your printer, but two of the more popular softwares for direct-disk printing are Acoustica and SureThing.
I believe that they both offer free trial periods.

Acoustica works very nicely with the HPD5160. Much better than HPs bundle software for the printer.

I downloaded the trial software tonight and printed my first disk to my HP D5160 in minutes. I was impressed, and spent the $19.95. Saved me hours trying to figure out how to get Nero Cover Designer to do it.

The printed disks look so good, I can't tell them from originals.

Could you post the picture of your printed disc for members to see the quality of labeling.

Glad you like it; small leaning curve and not over priced, hard to beat that I guess.

Re: Software to print DVDs on HP D5160?

How can I put 3rd party software on the HP D5160?
I do not like what it came with.
I just through out my third Epson printer.
I hoped that this printer would work better for me,but I do not like the HP software.
