CD & DVD Printing and Labeling Discuss, Which Printer? at International Chat: Hardware related forum; I'm currently looking for a printer to label my CDs/DVDs. Did a little research on the Epson R380 and don't think it will be feasible being I will be printing a lot. I heard that Canons ink cartridges can be refilled with non OEM ink, is this

Which Printer?

I'm currently looking for a printer to label my CDs/DVDs. Did a little research on the Epson R380 and don't think it will be feasible being I will be printing a lot. I heard that Canons ink cartridges can be refilled with non OEM ink, is this true?

Can anyone give me some info on a few good Canon printers for labeling? Thanks!!!

Hi shimabuku anmd Welcome to the forum. I think most buy the Epsons because the price of the ink is better than the Canon. I think the Epson R380 can be bought in the USA for under 200USD. However if you want a Canon, I would do some shopping around as Black Friday is approching and I do not think you will ever get a better deal on any printer if you can find it in a Black Friday sale.

Re: Which Printer?

you could always pickup an Epson with a CIS system; here is a link to some here in the US.

If you are buying in the USA then Canon printers don't allow printing directly on the discs unless you modify them to a non-USA spec. The trays are available on ebay along with the directions. If you don't want to go through that hassle then I recommend Epson. If you choose Canon then I would recommend a Canon 4000 series printer for your intended use.

The one big advantage of Canon printers using CLI-8 or BCI-6 cartridges is they can easily be refilled for around $1, or less, per cartridge. The downside is you will lose ink monitoring through the software but checking the ink levels manually takes all of a minute since the tanks are clear.

Re: Which Printer?

I have also seen cis systems for the canon on offer on the web.
I use an ip5000 and can buy the carts for $1:40 each.
The print quality is astounding both on photo paper and disc's, it does duplex prints as well!

Re: Which Printer?

Thanks for the replies and the useful information. In regards to which printer, I'll probably end up getting the Epson R380 from Compusa. I have a friend that works there, so there is a pretty nice discount

That was with a popup blocker! My point is it's hard to trust information from a site which shows signs of malicious intent...

Lemme guess, Internet Explorer?

I've visited that site dozens of times and never saw anything, not even an indicator that a popup was blocked. Odds are 50/50 that this came from a site you had visited previously. Gotta love I.E.

The site and author have no malicious intent however the host is a free service and does have some ads. There was also some problem with hackers attacking the webhost. They cleaned it up though.

I use Firefox with adblock so I don't see many ads.
