| Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... I've been poking around the board for a couple hours but didn't really find what i was looking for. I just purchased a 100 TY printable form supermedia and looking for a printer. What kind of printers are there that support this kind of printing? i'm currently deployed to iraq so my internet time is limited, i'm looking for some thing cheap and that will be shipped to the US or APO. Also how do you get the images? do you scan the original or are there places to pull them from the net? And what is this i read about spraying the disk with clear coat after printing? Does this need to be done and what would be recomended to use? thanks. |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... For the printers i'd recommend an epson r300 or the r320, i myself use a r300 and it's a good printer. Cheaper is the r220 which should does a good job as well as the 300 series. For media Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Images you could get from here http://www.cdcovers.cc/

Being where you are, if you can find a Canon PIXMA printer there, it will be disc capable and you can ship it home.

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... Okay, i want to get into printable media also but have a few newbie questions. What is the difference between silver inkjet printable and white surface hub printable discs? I want to be able to print as close to the center ring as possible since most commercial dvds are like that, so which one of these will suit my needs? |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... The white top discs look better, in my opinion. Hub printable is nice, since you get a nice even print all the way to the hub, although ocassionally the colors on the hub portion are slightly off (depending on the brand.) I too recommend Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden inkjet printables. The Verbatim inkjets that I've found have all been made in Singapore and very good quality. I use an Epson R300 with good results. |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... ok i ended up getting the r200. I found it for under 50 bucks and due to my location its going to be subjected to harsh conditions and didn't want to spend to much. next question..... i've read posts about the ink never setting and people using things such as krylon clear coating sprays. Is this what i should do? find a couple cans of krylon or is there some thing else that will yield better results? |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... Crack the ink does set and with original inks there is no need for such protection as they are supposed to be fade and water resistant. When you go to compats you may need to use protection on the printed surface. It can take upto 24hours for the ink to dry totally, this warning is also given by Epson themselves. Personally though I have never had any that needed more than an hour. CD covers works fine for me too. It might just be a case that you have tried to access it at a very busy time or while the servers are being updated. HAve you tried a different browser to see if that lets you access it? |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... The R200 uses a dye based ink that is about as water resistant as a piece of loo roll. Pigment based inks are better, but it is still best to use a protective spray. |

| Re: Need recomendations for Printer/Printable Media..... The difference between silver and white media is very pronounced. You have to remember that printers don't print apply white ink so will just leave it blank, leaving the light area with a silver or white finish depending on what you bought. Generally i wouldn't bother with silver as if you are printing out a scanned CD/DVD then the silver reflectivness cannot be recreated so you'll just get a couple of black bands. Usually if this is the case with a CD/DVD someone will have created a custom image on cdcovers.cc that will look good. |

Iin your R200 print settings use the normal CD/DVD surface mode and NOT the PREMIUM quality mode. The premium quality mode requires 24 hours or more to completly dry......regular mode can completly dry fairly quickly, but it will never be resistent to water.
