I ask because I am using Ver 1.4.84 host software & the (ELCU)Extended Contrast update for this version, to increase or decrease the contrast in my LightScribe labels. I get a very good (but longer burn) label image using this utility. I no longer have to burn twice to get similar results.
What is the average time you are using to burn a decent quality LS lable with your drive?.

Unhappy DW1655 : New Lightscribe and ELCU driver 1.4.109.1 (August 2006)

To all,
My first impressions of the new versions of software with a BENQ 1655 were not good. I was getting major errors where patterns were swirls (and shouldn't have been), or full bands of circles as far as how the artwork was being written. It would not register and recognize and old piece of art done and write over it as appropriate. I uninstalled both and reinstalled the 1.4.97.1 and 1.4.89.1 levels of ELCU and HSI Driver and things seemed to return to normal. I'd like to hear if any one else has had issues with this drive and the new software.

Re: New Lightscribe and ELCU driver 1.4.109.1 (August 2006)

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my nero program to recognize my lightscribe drive. I clicked on the fire icon down at the bottom right corner, and here's a screen shot of what I see. I've download 10000000000000 updates and stuff, but lightscribe still isn't showing up.

And here's what I see when I'm in Nero's lightscribe option. I have clicked on the down arrow and no drive shows up.

And here's what I see when I click on "file" to print. It doesn't show a lightscribe option. I've used lightscribe with Sonic, but it turned out really light after a 30 minute burn. I think I had it on "best" option.

Re: New Lightscribe and ELCU driver 1.4.109.1 (August 2006)

@Majmun

I was experiencing a similar situation with my Lighscribe drives. I spent 3 days trying to fix it.
I contacted lighscribe support and they e-mailed me several solutions. This is the one that worked:

"The following solution has been found to correct problems consistent with the
one you are experiencing. Warning this solution requires modifying the
registry. Modify the registry at your own risk.
The following solution applies to the English language version OS. Please use
caution if your OS is not the English language version.

Important This article contains information about how to modify the registry.
Make sure to back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you
know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information
about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following
article to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/ Description of the Microsoft Windows
registry
SYMPTOMS

You may receive one of the following error messages when you try to print a
LightScribe Label:

There are no LightScribe devices found on this system.
OR
LightScribe icons missing in Nero or LightScribe Drive NOT detected.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by
using Registry Editor. These problems might require that you reinstall your
operating system. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, verify the following key in the registry and edit if
needed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

To edit the registry key, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open text box, type Regedit, and then click OK.
3. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer.
4. Under HKEY_Local_Machine, locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

5. Select Winlogon.
6. "allocatecdroms" key to the REG_SZ type value should read: 0

(Note: the above entry applies to the English language version)

7. Right Click " allocatecdroms " key and modify the value data if needed.

Note: Systems exhibiting drive not detected symptoms may have a type value
of „1‰.
Microsoft‚s default of „0‰ is required for LightScribe to function properly.

8. Close the registry window and Re-Boot your system. Registry changes will
not take effect until after you Re-Boot.

If the above does not resolve your problem, install SureThing and see if it
will work. This will tell us if the problem is specific to the Nero software."

Re: New Lightscribe and ELCU driver 1.4.109.1 (August 2006)

I checked that, and it was already set at 0. I installed surething, and I can use lightscribe with that. I've also used it with express labeler. It doesn't show up with Nero though.
