From what I understand is that HP is making the LS drivers.

Re: Lightscribe driver 1.0.22.1.....

was a bit sceptical but this from Djonlonon (????) really worked !!!

"Re: Lightscribe not being recognized.
Hi, here a reply from The Netherlands in Europe. I had the same problem with Lightscribe, but I have the answer.
First you have to go to the Event Viewer. In the Application Log you see the following error of LightSrcibe Service:

Win32 Error : Function: [HurricaneClientProxy::OpenCDROMDevice] Error opening class device \\.\CDROM0 returned Win32 Error: 5 Description: Access is denied.

You can solve this problem as follows:

Choose Start > Run. Type "regedit" in the Open text box and then click OK.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\allocatecdroms

Change the valuation of 1 to 0

That's it and LightScribe will work!"

forget about the event viewer bit, just change the allocatecdroms value from 1 to 0 and BINGO! Lightscribe is awesome. btw got my hp dvd740i also from Walmart for $80. Officemax also has it for same $ with free shipping

http://www.officemax.com/max/solutio...kOID=537473661

Also - staples.com has staples brand dvd+r (50 pack) for $7.99 with free shipping!!!!

http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/st...URED:SC3:CG104

Happy shopping

Make sure your not running under a limited account but as administrator.

Download & install the Windows 3.1 Installer.

Check to see if the Lightscribe service is running in control panel->administrative tools->services if it is try stopping it and then running the installer.

I don't see it anywhere as a requirement for Lightscribe but do you have SP2 installed ?
My WinXP is SP1, after Download & install the Windows 3.1 Installer, I also ca't install the new Lightscribe driver LS_Update 1.4.56.1 from Nero:

1.4.56.1
http://dl1.nero.com/LS_HSI.EXE

The error message: "internal error 2723. updateShellCmdMustBeSet" also display, any suggest?

Re: Lightscribe driver 1.0.22.1.....

Well since the time I installed Nero 7 I didn't find the LS option anymore. I was installing tons of LS Updates and different Nero versions without any luck - this thread saved my two LS drives from being thrown outta window

BIG Thanks for the information about this magic key "allocatecdroms"!

Hi
Thanks hernygo,
It's interesting how Nero can't do update properly. See 1st pic, second & third piccies show what it looks like when you run about LightScribe, with disc label side down & data side down.

Re: New Lightscribe driver 1.4.67.1

Hi
Thanks pinto2, what I really meant was where do I go to set to manual. When I do control alt delete it shows Lightscribe as running. Of course I can end task from there. However I assume if you change setting to manual Lightscribe will only run when you start it. It's this aspect I don't seem to be able to do.

Re: New Lightscribe driver 1.4.67.1

Let's list the complete task on how to set LightScribe Services (LSSrvc.exe) to manual in Services.

1. Start - Run - services.msc [enter], or
Control Panel - Adminstrative Tools - Services.
2. Double click: LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service
3. In Startup type: set to Manual
4. In Service status: click Stop to stop the service.

Re: New Lightscribe driver 1.4.67.1

I set mine to manual as zevia stated above a couple of weeks back but noticed Nero was very slow to start with this sevice set to manual. Ended up setting it back to Auto start. Really don't like extra sevices running on my machine. Anyone else notice the same?
