HP Lightscribe DVD+R slow label burns!

I bought a bunch of lightscribe HP DVD+R
from walmart in the closeout bins 2.00 for a 5 stack .. decent deal for lightscribes and they are really
Disc type: : DVD+R
Book Type : DVD+R
Manufacturer: : Verbatim
MID : MCC 003 (000)
Write speeds: : 2.4 X - 4 X - 8 X
Blank Capacity : 4.38 GB
: 4482 MB
: 4700375040 bytes

The acutal data burns are excellent!

However, when I try to burn a detailed graphic label *just a jpg* it takes HOURS!!! I let the disk burn one day when going to do errands and came back a couple of hours later and was only at 68% that is unacceptable. Anyone else heard of this problem. my regular cdr lightscribes burn at the expected rates 30-40 mins at max quality full image.

I have no clue about light scribe so I'm just throwing this out there. Open task manager and look at your memory usage during the label burn. Are you running out of physical memory?

Hi,

check lightscribe.com website for further information. Maybe you need to install a newer version of the lightscribe drivers.

I have a lightscribe LG 4166B. I use verbatim disk and it usually takes 35 min for a "Best Quality" burn. Im running a AMD 64 at 3.0 ghz with 1.5gb of ram and Home XP. I dont know of any drivers expect from your dvd manufacture (firmware upgrade) that might help you with your burn.

Re: HP Lightscribe DVD+R slow label burns!

WOW!!! Thats a lot of memory usage! I was refering more to how much avalable physical memory you have during the process. Normally I would think that 1 gig would be plenty but if it uses almost 400 meg of memory, maybe it is a problem. Under the performance tab in task manager, see how much physical memory is free during an actual burn. If it is a couple of hundred meg then you are fine. If it is getting below 100 meg then you may have an issue of running out of memory. If so, see what is using your memory and perhaps try shuting down some programs while you burn the label.

There are regular updates of lightscribe system software (=drivers!) available at www.lightscribe.com Also Nero and other manufacturers offer newer versions from time to time.

Re: HP Lightscribe DVD+R slow label burns!

Well i complained to hp... (actually i had to contact the corporate number in texas and then have the operator transfer me to their executive customer service--thier words not mine--) The nice lady I talked to is going to send me a coupon for 25.00 to their hp shopping site.. That is a decent trade I think. I think that since this media was selling at walmart for 2.00 a 5 stack then it must have been earmarked as defective or soemthign not sure.. but in anycase defective or not the end result is satisfactory.
