"I would like to know whether the problems that I heard about Epson cd printer trays is still occuring in the epson photo printers? i have just bought an epson R340 and am a bit worried because I heard that the cd tray feeder would have problems after approximatley 200 cd's have been printed, Is the problem still there or has it been fixed?"

and this is what i got:
"In reply to your query regarding the CD tray, please be advised that the primary function of the printer is a photo printer. It has the added function of CD printing, this is for archival purposes and not the main intention of the printers use. Due to the nature of the CD printing system wear to the tray will occur hence this item is seen as a consumable."

Has anyone with an epson photo/cd printer gone past the 200 cd mark without any problems? Discuss.

I have a Epson stylus photo R800 and have printed well over 200 dvd's. The bottom of the plastic tray looks a little worn but i have had no jamming problems at all. Never turn your printer on or off with dvd tray inserted in the printer. Also try to never clean heads as it uses an enormous amount of ink. Rather keep printer off except when printing. This helps to keep heads clean and working.

Re: Epson Printers with cd print capablity- the truth

I've had my R220 for a while now and have printed hundreds of dvd with no problems (knock wood). I'm not exactly sure how many but I know about a month ago I threw away at least 9 or 10 empty Memorex printable DVD-R 100 pack cakeboxes plus a few 50 pack verbatim's. So I've probably printed at least 1200 or more with it but after reading this post I doubt I'll be doing too many more LOL.

I'm hoping that the trickle of glossy, no smudge, no smear CD and DVD print-on media will become a flood and we will no longer have to worry about that aspect of the finished product.

As for the tray not holding up, that is kind of odd, but at least the replacements are not prohibitively expensive...

I live in the US and own the Epson R300. I've had it for a few years, and yes the print tray fails. I probably print discs every day. One solution is to put masking tape over the clear plastic on the tray. It works, but isnt pretty!

I've tried local stores, and none carry them. I did find a web site in Oregon that sells the trays fairly cheep. With shipping its about 10 dollars. This site says that the tray has been redesigned, removing the clear lip.

Hope this is helpful

I have both a R200 and R300. I have had to reset the print counter twice on my R300, so I have printed cd/dvd's, photos and pages up to 4000 times. I was very frustrated with the dvd tray in that it would miss feed quite often. Until I discovered if I left the paper tray extension extended, it keeped the dvd tray aligned and I have had very few miss feeds.

that's a great link! thanks a lot!

i have an R300 using a continuous ink flow system and have printed slightly over 200 DVDs without any problems with my tray so far, and the printer is only 4-5 months old.

I read somewhere that you can cut the clear plastic off of the old style tray when it gets bad. I never tried this, and I always have to give the tray a nudge when it starts to feed. Now with my r220 with the new tray, no nudge is required.

The tray has been redesigned. The one that came with my R340 had this clear plastic leading tip of the tray that was glued onto the bottom. That clear plastic tip started to get kinked after just a few discs. But it still works fine. To be safe I bought one from a guy on eBay for $11 and it is apparently the new one. The clear plastic glue-on is gone and the hard black plastic tabs are much less fragile. I tried the new one and it works like the old one. I didn't even have to recalibrate for disc position.

edit... ok, here, I took a picture of the old one on top of the new one.

I have the Epson 320 with the clear plastic on the end and have printed well over 200 disks without a hitch. I have always been very careful with it though, especialy after reading some of these horror stories about them.

you can get the replacement part from Epson for free, I got mine in about 2 days, but the old one still works fine.

How did you get yours free? Is your printer new? I e-mailed them a couple of weeks ago & they basically told me "Too old." They didn't even point me to where I could buy one.
