Seems obvious that the answer to this is that it depends on what you're printing. Assuming full-face high quality images of varying colors and "premium surface" settings, you might expect to get 50 discs from a set of tanks. Could be less, but not more.

Re: Average Number of Printed On DVDs for One Set of Epson ink tanks

Since I use my Epson for more than just printing on CD's and DVD's, but to print photos as well an accurate count can't be made. Also you have to take the factors CDan presented into consideration as well. I would think a spindle of 50 would be a good guesstimate though and I would actually think it could be more...but that is my two cents.

I based my guestimate on high-quality settings and photo-quality images with saturation boosted. Using standard settings could well get you to 100 discs. Printing simple graphics with some text could take you a lot farther.

Re: Average Number of Printed On DVDs for One Set of Epson ink tanks

I'm using an Epson R220 and I average 75 to well over 100 discs with it and
that includes printing the outside DVD case covers along with a few 8x10 photos.
This is with full-face high quality images with varying colors and "premium surface"
with best photo settings checked. I use the refillable ink cartridges with mine so
that could make a difference in how much I can print between fill-ups they might
hold a little more ink than the factory carts do. They are going to be replaced soon
with a CIS system that I've had lying around here for a while but I just haven't got
around to installing it yet.

Does this ink and cartridges/tanks work in the Epson 260?
Ink: http://meritline.com/combo-uni-kit-1...artridges.html
Cartridge/tank: http://meritline.com/epson-stylus-r2...artridges.html
Also, which is more ink efficient, Canon or Epson printers?

Suggest you peruse the sticky thread on Canon vs Epson. There's no huge difference in ink consumption.

If your printer was made before April 2007, it will use any of the compatible Epson tanks. If it was made after April, it will only use the 2nd generation tanks. G&G is now selling tanks with the 2nd generation chip that will work for you. I would avoid the generic refill kits altogether and stick with pre-filled tanks with chips on them. I get them from rima.com and from inkjetsaver.com. Personally, I would not trust Meritline to send the correct tanks if you have a second generation printer. AFAIK, G&G is the only current seller of the 2nd gen tanks.

Here is where I got my refillable carts and CIS from and the carts work great they will reset to full
when they get down to something like 10% left in the cart. When they reset you just have to add
more ink to the carts unless you have a CIS and then keep on printing .

Refillable carts for R260 $65.00 USD + Shipping with all 6 4oz bottles of ink included
$42.00 USD + Shipping without ink.

CIS for R260 $85.00 USD + Shipping with all 6 4oz bottles of ink included
$65.00 USD + Shipping without ink.

A CIS system would go a looooooong way several hundred discs and covers and
quite a few high quality photo prints the 100ml tanks is probably equal to approximately
somewhere around 5 - 8 full sets of ink carts or more.

Re: Average Number of Printed On DVDs for One Set of Epson ink tanks

So, I am wondering, which I should get, the Epson R260 or the Canon Pixma iP4500? Does one have better quality? Or one not compatible with CIS inks?

I am starting to see there are many differences in dye vs pigment based ink, however. In comparing the cheap Epson dye printers (R280, R380) compared to their more expensive photo printer (R800) - the pigment based ink not only looks much better, and does not smudge,.. but information I'm getting is the (8) cartridges do last longer. Reports on the newer Epson's using Claria dye ink (6) cartridges is they go fairly quick.

I purchased an Epson RX700 All-In-One in mid-2006. Too expensive really, but I wanted a versatile machine. It uses dye based ink, 6 cartridges. At first I wasn't aware of the chip issue... I did order G&G cartridges from Meritline on assurance they were compatible. Sure enough, the RX700 notified me that I was attempting to use a non-Epson replacement, and "Do you want to proceed?" message...

My printer then developed a software error and I'm presently fighting with Epson on the issue - they sent me a replacement with the same exact problem. I did contact Meritline well after their 30-day Return had passed, to let them know, the RX700 G&G cartridges were definitely NOT compatible. Meritline offered to credit me or replace the bad G&G's.

That is a fascinating (to me anyways) concept. Quoted from CityInkExpress.co.uk:
"What is a continuous ink system ?

"Basically the cartridges insert into your printer as normal these are connected by tubes to external tanks which sit at the side of your printer. When the ink is used in the cartridge it is automatically topped up from the external tank. When the colour runs out on the external tank you can buy bulk ink in a bottle to refill. Bottle sizes are available in 100ml 250ml and 500ml"
