Affordable printer that can take cd's?

As a photographer and occasional videographer, I would like to be able to print on CD's.

I have "pro" CD printers that costs quite a bit.....around a thousand or so and not worth it.

I thought maybe Epson or HP or Canon would make a home printer capable of printing on cd/dvd media.

Am I in luck?

Thanks....I am pretty interested in that printer. I also found a device that only prints on cd's and dvd's......about $90.

Then the problem becomes................finding quality media at a good price that is also inkjet printable.

Epson has an R200 for $100 but is out of stock at their Epson store with no dealers around here.

The R300 takes memory cards without a computer but those prove to be very slow if working with large files. It also has a preview window.

There are adapters to make straight path Canon and Epson printers work but they look pretty cheesy.

Been researching a lilttle today.

You could try out Verbatim DataLifePlus SuperAZO cd-r's. They're nog very cheap, but at least their quality is well-known and they're printable. In The Netherlands they are around 0.80 euro's a piece in jewelcases.

Thanks....I ordered the Epson R300 today though.

I liked the preview window a little and the separate cartridges for separate colors a lot.

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

bargain hunter, how has the R300 worked out? I'm wanting to buy a Printer that will print on CDs/Dvds, and came across your thread. Would you recommend it? Or has printing to DVDs turned out not to be worth it?

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

I've had my R300 since they first came on the market, excellent print quality for photos and more than adequate on CD/DVD, ink consumption is good and third party ink cartridges are cheapas long as you buy good quality. I believe the R200 is a lot cheaper and does exactly the same job but hasn't got the card reader built in..

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

I have used an R300 for about a year. Prints great photos, and I've printed about 25 - 30 dvd's. Fantastic results.

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

I think in the US (where the original poster is), you only option is an epson (or a specialized cd printer). Canons do not have cd printing capabilities in the US.

I now have the EPSON R300 which prints direct onto cd\dvd and its great no more messing with sticky labels (which dont do the disc any good anyway) there is also the EPSON R200 but it does not have the memory card reader but is much cheaper and still prints to cd\dvd..
btw these 2 models have been superseeded by the EPSON R320 and the EPSON R220 but of course they are much more expensive because they are not long out...

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

Fry's in Houston had a special on the Epson R300 $49.99 with a $20 rebate.
Bought the printer, order 100 Ty's from Rima.com.

Software with the printer is great. Scanned old VCR holders, and printed. LIttle undersaturated, adjusted printer and output is great.

Only possible issue I have is ink life. Right now I have printed 6 DVD's with only a slight amount of ink used.

Printed onto Kodak paper, output was great. Looked on Epinions.com. Issue at thiis site is ink consumption. So far my DVD's have been great!!!!, still haven't made up my mind on ink consumption.

I have used Memorex labels in the past with no complaints. These labels were good, and I didn't notice much degradation with QS score after the label was applied. I know eventually this will be a problem that's why I bouth the Epson R300. So far so good. My only issue is that QS scans on TY inkjet printable disks are not as good as QS scores on regular TY disks (92 vs 97) on my BenQ 1620 and BenQ 1640.

This is an insane price. Ya better get 10 of them at that price. Fantastic printer. I bought one when they first came out and paid $179.00 for it and don't regret it for a moment. But for this price all I can say is Holy Flippen Hanna!!

The R300 at FRY's was a refurb at that price.

Fry's add today has R200 for $30 AR.Refurb units. You can't buy the 6 ink cartridges for that.

Right after I posted that(in August 2004), I purchased the R200. Can't beat those printers for the price, and they do a great job. I also purchased the Casio thermal printer. I actually use my Casio the most because I can print to any surface of any type of DVD/CD (Retail, OEM, etc..). The discs I burn the most are the Fuji TY02 DVD+R's, and I have my casio setup to print right on the title line of the Fuji's. Clean cut looking and definitely easier to read than my handwriting.

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

Refills for the R200 can be acquired for under $25 for all 6 cartridges at private abacus... I've printed around 150 DVDs (no covers) on one set of cartridges and still going...

Re: Affordable printer that can take cd's?

The r200 is 30$ after rebate at fry's now. I would never give up my canon for photos, but want an epson for cd printing. Any recomendations on refill ink (bottles), and do I need a chip resetter with this printer? Fyi I want quality over price on the refill ink. Anyone know any really good ink?

Yeah... I've had one for over a year now and it's never missed a beat. Works great. I also had a R300 for a little while, but I ended up giving it to a friend. For the price you can't beat them.
