Samsung 40MB/s NAND Flash MMCplus

Samsung's new MMCplus 1GB and 2GB use Samsung's own 4Gbit SLC (single level cell) chips. Speed:

40MB/s read
25MB/s write

Who said flash is too slow? Look at the dramatic rate of speed increases over the past few years. Currently, there are more HDD's selling than GB flash cards but it's going to be different by next year or 2008. Semico Research says there will be a 750 million unit market for flash cards with at least 1GB size in 2009.

Flash 1x is about 150KB/s (not sure but it must be around 150KB/s.)
CD 1x is 150KB/s.
Blu-ray 1x is 4.5MB/s.
SATA II is 300MB/s.

English article

Quote:
[AVING-KOREA] <Visual News> Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. presented that it has developed the industry’s highest density MMC card based on its most advanced MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash memory. It also has developed the highest performing MMC card, based on SLC (single-level cell) NAND flash.

Based on Samsung’s 8-gigabit (Gb) NAND flash memory, the MMCplus card will be introduced with an 8-gigabyte (GB) density, allowing it to store 2,000 MP3 music files or eight hours of DVD-quality movies. The 8GB card will be part of a full line up of MLC-based MMCplus cards that also will include 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB offerings.

Re: Samsung 40MB/s NAND Flash MMCplus

yep - the flash is upping the ante - but the thing is - the individual chips aren't speeding up too much - i brought a 133x card to find 2x 66x parts running in parallel [and i know it's more like 132x but yeh same thing]
