Re: write errors

Hi banksiaman and welcome to cdfreaks,

A few items for starters.

Looks like your burner/ firmware does not support this specific MID, but
"INFOMEDIAA20" is crappy media. Please don't take this personally and don't shoot the messenger. Take a look at this link under 3rd Class Media:
digitalFAQ.

In Common settings > Write > You might try changing from Packet writing to SAO. Frequently, this will help when writing to -R media, but I would switch to some quality media regardless...hard to go wrong with Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden.

[Edit]
Your DRU-720A is a rebadged Liteon and should write to most decent media without much trouble. I'm headed for bed, but check and make certain your firmware is up to date.

Hope this helps.

"Looks like your burner/ firmware does not support this specific MID"
not sure what you mean by this do you mean the program will not work with my Sony burner DRU-720A or its drivers.

I will read your link re media ,I have been using these discs OK up to now with no problems i.e copy my home movies etc.

I do find it confusing about media brands as if I have got it right they all seem to source there discs from various companies if this is right any brand is a gamble

Re: write errors

firmware is a small program stored in your DVD burner that controls writing. Among other things, it checks that you are using the correct disc type in the drive, and will cause the drive to reject incorrect media.

mid is media identification. this is how your drive knows how to write to the dvd disc. what you are using happens to be INFOMEDIAA20. i downloaded the JY02 firmware that your drive currently has loaded. and your media is not supported according to a program called media code speed edit. i also downloaded the latest firmware for your drive and it supports a generic dvd-rw INFOMEDIA code at 2x speeds.

you say that you have been using these disc with out problems. do you mean using these disc as the brand name? have you just purchased a new package of the same brand? have these disc been re-formated before using them with other programs? the other times these disc were used was it for the first time? dvdfab had to format the disc before use. which is ok, but your firmware doesnt seem to support this media so maybe the format went wrong. if you had to format before which program did you use to perform the format?

this is true for alot of media brands. however there are some that will give you good disc every time. the two maineman mentioned are highly recommended here at cdfreaks. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f33/where-b...-online-52487/

you can upgrade your firmware here
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2028

and your sony 720a drive is also compatible with liteon 1673s firmware
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2026

Re: write errors

Thanks maineman
tried changing from Packet writing to SAO. with a no go.
Checked out digitalFAQ will get other discs and try them.

Thanks Troy512
google link was good point. most embarased.
I now know what firmware is now

Have been looking up links you gave.
I havenot yet figured out how to tell what my current firmware vern is.
Its ok i will google that one

Your right these discs dont work with the DRU-720A its a sad story how I got mixed up So I wont tell you.
At least I now know why they dont work and how to check them

Have d/loaded DVD identifer and used a TDK601saku disc with the expected good results

So to sum up if your new to this and you use cheap discs

1 check what discs your firmware will read
2 get DVD identifier and check your discs
and take your chances
Or
use recommended quality brands
and burn with no hassles
Thanks to all and am off to bed

Re: write errors

Just get better media like Verbatim or TY.

And if the source is DL, then use Verbatim DL.

Re: write errors

Likewise, happy to hear that you're up and running...
Sorry about my short response last night, but I literally was falling asleep.
Thankfully Troy showed up and did a great job as usual...

Another method to ID your firmware besides the burn log (a lot of good info there too) is with a utility like nero cd-dvd speed. Just stick a blank media in your drive, click the Disc Info tab and it will ID your burner, firmware and MID (blank or burned media ID). It has many more uses; geno888 put together a very useful and comprehensive guide available right here on cdf.

Anyway, it's as free utility...just click on the link in my sig (below) to download.

Take a look at the LiteOn DVD Burner/Sony Burner sub- forum and you should have no problem accessing firmwares for your burner and a whole lot more.
