| why is verify so slow compared with read & write, I find that the verify function is very slow, and is also very slow when compared with other software. e.g. for a 4Gb single layer disc I typically get speeds of read- about 5 mins , 8 x burn - about 8 mins, verify - about 20 mins. That's with Verbatim media but I don't think the choice of blank media affects the verify speed at all. if I write & verify with my basic dell-supplied version of roxio, then the verify is as fast as , or faster than the burn. So, for me anyway, it's musch quicker to use Fab only for the read step, then use roxio to write & verify |

And is it 100% safe to install yet another burner - since I already have installed Roxio media creator ( came with the PC), DVDFAB & also NTI CD & DVD maker. | |

| Re: why is verify so slow It's totally safe to install ImgBurn. Personally I've got numerous burning apps installed and experience no issues what-so-ever. Unless you've a system problem the verify should be faster than the burn. |

| Re: why is verify so slow As TimC said, there should be absolutely no issues with installing and running Img on your system. I too, have multiple burning apps, as do many users and I experience no problems. Img is an excellent app....period On the other hand, one of the really nice features of platinum is that it's essentially 1 click and the entire process is done, all within one program. I tried verify in Fab just once, out of curiosity. It worked, but the time it took was just interminable. I've talked to a few others who found the same. I don't know why it takes this long, but there it is. Having said this, I personally have no interest or use in the verification process. I can't remember the last burn error/issue I had with VSO. The rare problem that pops up with Fab is on the rip and short-lived. Just my 2 cents.

| Re: why is verify so slow Old post but maybe it will help. Some advice, always verify unless you know the disc can be easily replaced. I felt the same way, why verify after a few discs that work fine? Because there will be that one disc that is bad and the movie you burned will have to be bought again to replace it. Even if a disc burns correctly does not mean it will read properly and when you pick up that movie again to watch it or rip it for a friend its dead and you can only recover 2 of the vobs. So again always verify unless you can easily replace the disc that you don't ever want to lose. |

| Re: why is verify so slow I verify everything for peace of mind, but I burn with Roxio & use fab only to rip. Roxio verifies much faster than fab, and I have a 100% success rate with verbatim +R blanks & panasonic +RW rewriteables. the only exception to that is on the rare occasions when I want a DL burn, then I let fab do everything, and just go away for an hour or so while fab does its thing. It could be that Roxio would do those OK also, but fab knows how to do the layer break thing which is the trickiest part of a good DL burn. |

| Re: why is verify so slow I just burned by first DL with Fab. If the original is DL I burn the same. DL discs are much cheaper now when on sale. I also use the Verb. DL. Last time I bought them they were 85 cents each. I like DL because I can retain full quality which is much more noticeable on a big screen. Fab did a good job with verify for me. It ran at about 9x which is about the same that ImgBurn will do when verifying. I'm really not even concerned with the speed issue. I want a quality burn, period. Seems the DVD hardware industry has many of us wrapped up in the speed game, as that is their main competition strategy in advertising. Whenever I read those boxes they come in, I never see any mention of quality burns. After all, its the burner that determines quality, not the software. |
