DVDFab / DVD Region+CSS Free Discuss, WHY...has this just started to happen at Copy Movie forum; OK, loaded DVDFab (Platinum) onto my laptop, was working fine. Converted DVD to IPOD with no issues for about 10 DVD's. Now, all of a sudden, the disk converts all the way to 100% and then just sits there and will not finalise. Any suggestions. Cage

Cage, did you update versions in the meantime? If yes, have you tried downgrading to the version that was working fine? If yes, does it still fail?

OK, I was using the latest Version 3.1.1.2 on both machines (desktop and laptop), then I have removed this from the desktop machine. I have tried earlier versions 3.1.1.0 Beta, 3.1.0.8 and 3.0.9.0 Beta. All discs go to 100% then just halt. The timer keeps going, the frame rate keeps falling (slowly) but it will not come up with the final conversion complete.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS.... I really like this program and would like to rectify it somehow. Common you experts out there, any suggestions. Is there a limitation on how many conversions you can do ????????

It is very strange it has happened on both machines AT THE SAME TIME.

Are we talking about a DVD burn that won't finalize the disc or an iPod rip that just hangs and won't finish?

We are talking about a DVD > IPOD that won't finish. The DVD Burning side is working fine.

Thanks for chiming in here signals, can always rely on you. It is just strange how it has happened on two PC's at the same time.

Re: WHY...has this just started to happen

Good to see you in the forum again, but sorry it's with a problem. But you know I love a good mystery. Do any of the other profiles finish as they should (e.g. iPod, or one of the other non-AVI types)? Anything else running in the background? Any Windows/Java updates that would coincide with the timing of the problem starting?

I like a mystery too, I just don't like being the lead role.

Anyway, I tried just taking a chapter from a disk as well as from the hard drive, I tried it in Generic, IPOD etc, they all hang at 100% and just sit there with the clock continuing to count.

Hang on........think I see what is happening. I went to the folder where the file is being converted too, and noticed that the byte count is continuing to go up. I know from past results that most movies are around .5GB / hour of recording at my SWEET SPOT settings. So, what I think is happening is that the screen is showing it at 100% but it is still converting. I am doing another at the moment to test my theory and it has come up to 100% on the screen and when I look in the folder it is still at only 190KB and going up very very very slowly. It seems for some reason the conversion itself has slowed down well ahead of the actual screen. The screen one is about right for time, but the actual conversion is lagging way back.

Any chance of you doing a quick one chapter convert to see if you have the same problem, I'm wondering if it has something do with the later updates.

Thanks again
Cage.

Do a screen capture of your configure screen and post it so I can hit the same sweet spots.

See discussion I had once before, still using the same settings as in this thread.

Re: WHY...has this just started to happen

OK, I had two chapters from Spiderman 2 already ripped off disc so I used that. It encoded at 56 fps and "gonged" and brought up the completion box as soon as it hit 100%. Plays OK in VLC, but the A/V sync slips if you FF/REW. This with v3.1.1.2.

Well, I am at a loss. I just used another program. ImToo DVD to IPOD and it works fine, ends at 100% and encodes quickly. I have no idea why this has just started to happen to DVDFab all of a sudden. I could understand it better if it happened on just one machine, but not both at the same time.

Thanks for doing that anyway, maybe some others MIGHT have a suggestion or two. Sometimes, a lot of people help, other times, it just seems to fall by the wayside unfortunately and the forum does not help much if you get input from just one person. BUT,, I do appreciate the help.

Regards
Cage

Re: WHY...has this just started to happen

Both at the same time is stretching coincidence and what made me suggest a windows update or other OS/system change that might effect the way DVDFab behaves. A Java update released last week caused all sorts of problems. Same for XP a couple of weeks ago and Vista is full of its own challenges. Do you have a restore point set that you could go back to without too much pain? Then just install 3.1.1.2 over whatever is there and see what happens. It never comes easy. Maybe somebody else will have an idea.

Re: WHY...has this just started to happen

uninstall all your DVDfab versions, clean your registry as well as you can, reboot, create a new user with admin rights, login to this account and reinstall (version 3.1.1.2 if you are absolutely sure that it worked with your first 10 DVDs - if not reinstall the version that first worked). Try it out.

Let us know.

Arrhh, I thought screw it. Rather than keep messing about with it, I thought I would just reformat the Desktop Machine (Windows XP) and the Laptop (Vista Home Premium) and see what happens.

Both machines are now back to normal. It must have been something I added to both machines but can't think what would slow it down so much. As an example. I did Predator before the reformat then after. Here are the results using my normal SWEET SPOT settings I use.

Before: Took 4 hrs and 36 mins
After: Took 1 hour and 2 mins

So, figure that one out. I would really love to know what slowed it down so I can avoid it in the future, must have been some codec or the like. I tend to mess around a bit to much at times.

Anyway, thanks to all who chimed in to try and help.

Regards
