what is up with Superman Returns?

I just recently purchased Superman Returns and wanted to back it up with DVDFAB Platinum 3050, it took 2.5 hours to totally back up. And any other movie it takes about 24 min. and the bad thing is DVDFAB 3050 copies to hard drive from 4.8mb/s to 8.5mb/s in full disc mode. Superman Returns copy's at no faster than .87mb/s , and after you back it up all other movies want copy to hard drive any faster than .87mb/s. I had to restore my system to an earlier date to fix this problem. I tried this a few times and the same thing happened every time, and only with Superman Returns. Has anyone had this problem?

Welcome to the forum. It could be a bad source disc.

Welcome to CDFreas and this forum, check the follwoing:

1) Make sure the disc (Superman) is not damaged.
2) Make sure the disc is not diry (try to clean the disc)
3) Try to download the latest version of ANDDVD and install it as demo and try the copying with ANDVD in the background and report the result.
4) if you don't have the latest version fof DVDFAB try to upgrade to that and try that one also.

Re: what is up with Superman Returns?

I agree with Alan1476 that it sounds like a bad source disk. I have seen this before when I had a bad source disk and what happens is after a few read errors windows is changing the IDE channel transfer mode from DMA to PIO. After that, it seems to stay in PIO mode.

If you try this again I would check your IDE channel in device manger to see if DMA is enabled.

Re: what is up with Superman Returns?

Yeah, I agree with alan and Cipherguy. I was able to bkup Superman Returns with platinum v.3.0.5.0 - both clone mode and main movie...no problems. With xp for an os, if you've exceeded 6 CRC errors, xp will step down the transfer rate and you'll be stuck with PIO despite the settings you choose in device manager. There are two links referenced in my sig. If the first one doesn't resolve your issue, follow the guide in the second link, "More DMA help".

Good luck and let us know...

Hi Maineman

maybe you can help me out on something I have DMA set on both Primary and Secondary IDE Channels ok.
But what I want to know is this
on the Primary it states that Ultra DMA Mode 5 is the current Transfer mode "which is great" "BUT"
on the Secondary it states that the current Transfer mode is Ultra DMA mode 2
is this normal or should it also be Ultra DMA Mode 5

Hi Tim,

Yup, you're ok. I'm not sure how your system is configured, but Ultra DMA Mode 5 refers to the transfer mode of your hdd(s), whereas Ultra DMA mode 2 is typical for optical drives. The second link (More DMA help) in my sig is pretty informative and worth a look, even if you're not experiencing problems.

Re: what is up with Superman Returns?

Got The Superman box set tin for christmas. Put Superman Returns in and it ripped fine with 3.0.4.6. Averaged 4.8mb/s to 9.2mb/s Took about 18 min, not bad for a 2 1/2 hour movie.

Re: what is up with Superman Returns?

18 to 25 minutes that is about average time for DL disc Video.
