| Using two DVD drives = failed burn My DVD Fab works great copying movies when I stick to just one drive. My computer has two DVD burners however - D and E. So - any copy made with D as source and destination works fine. And, any copy made with E as source and destination also works fine. But . . . if I use D as the source and E as the destination - the burn fails. Same if E is the source and D is the destination. Sometimes the computer tells me about the failed burn - and sometimes it doesn't tell me and just goes through the process and creates a disk that is unreadable. Any ideas? I'm running Windows XP Professional. I know it's not the drives them selves since I've already swapped in two totally different DVD burners with the same results. I'd like to get this working so I can have the entire read and copy process take place without me being here to stick a blanc DVD in when ready. |

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn I also have two burners and have E selected as source and the D selected as target as it is the 112L and they work just fine, the 112L is master and the 112D is set as slave, copy with the D and burn with the L, are you running 80 wire cable?

If you could provide respective screenshots, it'll be a big help. The default location for the burn log is: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

it came with dual CD drives both hooked "cable select" - so when I replaced them with DVD burners, I kept all the same. I assumed since the drives are recognized and working individually - it's OK. But . . . maybe not? One drive is a Lite-On DH-20A4P and the other an HP DVD940i. /14/2008 1:10:23 PM info ******************** Report session closed ********************* 1/14/2008 1:10:12 PM info Media removed. | Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn Yeah, I had the same problems a couple of times when adding a burner. Depends on the burner. With my BenQ 1640, NEC 3500 and new Pioneer 115D, if they are on the same IDE cable, one must be master and the other slave. Then you can burn or read from either. My LG 4167 though has to be on its own IDE cable, won't work with 2 on same cable. |

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn If you have two drives, it is always better to have them on different IDE controllers as it generally makes transfers faster because the two drives are not negotiating on the same bus. Some will just not work. Also, I always set drives up as master/slave and not cable select. I know cable select is supposed to work fine and generally, always does, but I have had ocassions where it would not or funny problems occurred and were always resolved when turned back to master/slave.

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn Yeah, hp has a habit...used to anyway....of placing ODDs on cable select. Agree with others, this can be a problem with certain replacements. Change to master/slave configuration and ideally, put them on separate IDE cables if feasible, as suggested. I suspect your cable is already a 40 pin/80 wire (and not 40 pin/40 wire), but take a peek as Jimbo mentioned. I'm pretty sure the hp is a rebadged liteon (hp uses Benq and used to use LG, ? still does). HP is such a PITA with their firmware, the letter (suffix) just denotes the firmware. I'm not much of a fan of hp firmware. I believe you'd be a lot better off by flashing this to a liteon drive and using liteon firmware (or modified )...but leave that for another day. I know you've had ok burns with the Ritek R05, but I'm not too sure your burner likes them a whole lot. Definitely slow your burn speed from 16X...try 8X Look at updating your firmware. Don't know how many of the Riteks you've got, but recommend you pick up some TY or verbatim media. Once you get the cable situation rectified, try burning with the Lite-On DH-20A4P.

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn I use 2 drives a LG ROM and a Benq 1625. Like others have stated I prefer to set my own Master & Slave settings. I always make sure that the burner is set as Master on secondary IDE channel with the Reader being Slave. HD is Master on Primary IDE and another HD as slave on the Primary channel if desired. That way I never have 2 drives sharing resources on same channel. Secondary Slave ROM rips to Primary Master HD then Secondary Master Burner writes information from Primary Master HD. I load both drives and make sure they both recognize the media before I click on start then 1 click completes the backup DVD.

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn I saw one posting about the IDE BUS too, that would have been my next piece of advise. You would probally like to try an external drive thats what I do since my machine is so jammed packed now. I have noticed on a slower machine that sudden power influxes that it may cause failed burns. |

| Re: Using two DVD drives = failed burn Just to clarify, I have my Pioneer 115D as the master and BenQ 1640 as the slave on the same IDE cable with no problems. The LG 4167 as I said must have its own cable for some reason. Just a peculiarity of the LG drives I guess. |
