| Using new Path Player to help with subtitle issues? Hi all, Like a few others, I have been wrestling with subtitle issues. I've read the posts about how to force subtitles on via editing IFO files (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=220900) but what I have been after is having the same behaviour when ripping the main movie as I do when I rip the entire DVD. Specifically, movies which have the majority of dialog in English, but occaisional non-english dialog - whith full DVD rips, the subtitles usually just come up for the non-english part, while with main movie rips you are leaping for the remote and backing the movie up.... I assume the difference in behaviour is due to the full rip DVD launch menu passing through some player variables when starting the movie - these are not then captured when doing only a main movie rip. My question is if 'Path Player' is essentially a DVD player emulator, can it not 'virtually' launch to the movie menu and press the 'Enter' button (since in most DVD's the 'play' function is default selected), and capture those variables to use as default when ripping main movie only? Just a thought, to improve on an otherwise excellent product! Thanks |

| Re: Using new Path Player to help with subtitle issues? Hi Vinomarky You are talking about what I call "translation subtitles". A perfect example is the movie The DaVinci Code, where (on the R1 disc at least) spoken Latin and French appears as an English subtitle. The problem is that the translations are not optically printed onto the film or as a distinct subpicture stream as they often were in the past, but rather use start commands in the full English subtitles to make them appear only for the non-English dialogue. I think you can use a free program called DVDSubEdit to extract the forced start subpictures and and then put them back in but I have not been successful at this. From what I have read elsewhere the start commands for the translation subtitles are in the VOB files and not the IFOs but I have not been able to verify this. I am still working on it. You could make an analog copy of the movie (play it back and capture is digitally or record it with another standalone recorder) but the quality would be nowhere near as good as what you get with DVDFab. You are correct that it is impossible to make a proper DVD to Mobile conversion of movies like this with DVDFab alone. I have tried VOB Passthrough with no luck on any of my players (but that may be a player problem). Thanks again to DVDSubEdit author jeanl for this great application. Here is a link to the homepage. The Guide you referred to is outdated and will be replaced with one using DVDSubEdit when I have time. Last edited by signals; 07-10-2007 at 16:47. |

| Re: Using new Path Player to help with subtitle issues? Hi vinomarky, As signals, it's forced subtitle. I think we can add a "Copy forced subtitle only" option in the future, of course for "DVD to Mobile". For "DVD to DVD", you can choose the subtitle, and it will be displayed if it's forced subtitle. Thanks! Best Regards, Fengtao

| Re: Using new Path Player to help with subtitle issues? Yes, a big "xie xie ni " to both Signals and of course Fengtao. What you talk about doing is exactly what I was looking for - from my point of view, implementing it in the main movie rip mode is of most interest, and of course the default setting should then be to have the forced subtitles turned on. I'll keep in mind Signals suggestions, but keep the fingers crossed that the problem will soon be solved in a future release :-) Last edited by vinomarky; 08-10-2007 at 14:10. |

| Re: Using new Path Player to help with subtitle issues? Hi vinomarky, If you mean "Main Movie" of "DVD to DVD", there is no need for this. For example, you can choose English subtitle, but don't make it as Default, then it will be hidden at startup, and be shown when it's forced. You can get info about "Default" of subpicture at: http://docs.dvdfab.com/index.php/Main/DVDToDVDMainMovie Best Regards, Fengtao
