i have been trying to back up my thrid season of sopranos and keeping getting a read/write error. only on disc 2, it will back up all others. please help.

AMD Athlon 64 process 3400+
1.81ghz
2 gb ram
hp dvd burners (i have 2) dvdwriter 840d, 840x

DVDfab platnium (registered version) 3.1.2.6.

If you are getting any error codes with numbers in parenthesis after them, please post.

no error codes, just says read write/error abort retry skip cancel

sounds like a problem with the disk.....i backed up this disk with no problems using ripit4me.....never know, definately some bad pressed disks out there

The error you are getting will not show up in the burn log because it is happening before that part of the process starts. Try this: in Common Settings-->Read, disable the Read Ahead Cache, and click on the button that says "Ignore All Read Errors". You might also try changing the I/O control mode selector (near the top) from Auto to SPTI. Not sure what mode you are using, but you might have better luck with Customize mode with the No Menus button selected. You will need to put a check mark in the box beside each episode you want to include on the output disc.

Time for some sleep here. I'll check tomorrow and see if any of that helped.

how far into the read process are you before the error occurs? does the disc have scratches on it?

your best bet is to try the main movie first. instead of burning to dvd, select your hdd as the destination. this way you will be able to play the files with vlc media player (or what ever you use) to check if the copy is good before burning. if you want more than the main movie then play around with this same process using customize selecting different titles until you receive the read error. then just dont copy the problem title(s).

are you removing your blank dvd's several times? not really sure what this means, occurs over a 40 min period.

not removing medias a lot, only when different burns are done


disc is new out of box, not a scratch on it.

im trying to find out if there maybe a problem with backing up season disc, more importantly sopranos season 3 disc 2, as you are not the only one with the same problem.

however there are others which have backed up successfully. as previously posted there maybe a problem with the originals, not the software, this is why some are able to backup and others not.
