trouble getting started

I have two problems I need so help with please:
1. The only way I can get DVDFab to recognize the source disc is to put the disc in the drive first, then start the program. If I start DVDFab, then put in a DVD, it has no idea the disc is there.
2. When I finally get a disc to copy/burn correctly, the program will freeze while the program reads 'finalizing'. I can close the program, but it will not restart correctly. If I want to copy/burn another DVD, I have to shut my computer down and restart it.

I am using Windows Vista, and DVDFab Platinum and have tried 4.0.5.0 and 4.0.5.1.
Thanks.

Re: trouble getting started

Troy512,
DVD Fab seems to be behaving much better after your advice to do the complete uninstall reinstall.
All settings are default except the booktype. The Maxell DVD+R's I have do not seem to work otherwise.
I've never posted a burn log before, and have pasted in the most recent event. If this is not the correct information, or I need to post more of the log, please let me know. I am obviously a cherry at this.
Thanks.

Re: trouble getting started

Hi frysl,

Yup, reduce your burn speed as suggested.
A good rule of thumb...for starters anyway... is 1/2 the max speed of your burner or 1/2 the max rated speed of your media...whichever is slower.

Update your burner's firmware...is this a dell desktop, laptop? Go to dell's website and update.
Hopefully, bitsetting is supported with newer firmware.
Samsung can be a PITA re: firmware support for bitsetting, as in not providing support.
Are you able to force bitstting with Fab for this media?
I know for a fact not all sammys will bitset with Fab...you have to use a utility or outside burn app like Img or nero.

The media...CMC MAG-M01-00... you're using is crappy. Sorry, don't shoot the messenger. Take a look at
digitalFAQ under 3rd class media.
Hard to go wrong with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim...

[Edit]
Oops...just noticed both ODDs are IDE...never mind about answering the laptop question...doh!

Re: trouble getting started

Thanks! I'll take care of all the suggestions.
Wow - I would of never guessed that the Maxell discs I've been using were so crappy. Thanks for sending the media guide. Nothing but 1st class from now on.

No one else see this..."1/23/2008 7:17:23 AM info PIO Mode"?
Reset set your DMA on your drive, will make a big difference.

I sure didn't......thanks for watching our backs.
There's a DMA reset tab in Fab. If this doesn't do it or it keeps reverting, there are 2 links in my sig. that will help.

Re: trouble getting started

Thanks again. I have no idea what a DMA is, but it has been reset!

I've been using the 'search' tool to try and find a dumbed-down explanation of what DMA is/does, but no luck so far. Would someone point me to a thread please?
