Trouble Burning

Hi.

I have just bought a new pc and I am trying to back up some of my dvd's, using DVD Fab Platinum. I managed to burn 'the departed' without a hitch.

However when I have tried to burn 'over the hedge', when I put the blank disc in, the drive spins and then stops and I get an error message saying:

Failed to burn - Error 116

I am only trying to burn the main movie.

My computer has a TSSTCORP DVD+-RW TS-H653. (Its a DELL Machine)

I'm using Verbatim DVD-R x16.
Cheers

Re: Trouble Burning

I am away from home for the weekend, but I will post burn logs.

I have found that copying the dvd to a file, then burning seperately works fine, its when I copy and burn in one go that I have a problem??

Cheers

Re: Trouble Burning

Hi thwapy,

3 things right off.
Your burner's transfer mode is PIO...you need to enble it to UDMA 2.
Try the reset DMA button in Fab. If this doesn't work for you read over and follow the suggestions/giudes in my sig. There are 2 links. The 2nd link contains a VBScipt file that you may need to run. Just follow the instructions.

You need to change the Write Type to SAO in common settings.

You also should reduce the burn speed to 8X.

Hope this helps.

Re: Trouble Burning

Try cleaning the burner with a dvd player cleaner, also change from packet writing to SAO, reset to DMA mode and slow down the burn speed to around 4X or 8X also here are the setting that I use
My DVDFAB Platinum Settings Which Work Great For Me
Read
I/O Mode: Auto
Check: Ask Retry/Ignore/Abort When Reading Error
Retry: 5 Times
Skip Sectors After Reading Error: 32
Cache Control: Check Enable Read Ahead

Write
Write: Burning Engine VSO
Write Speed: 4X or 8X ( I use 12X myself because I use 16X Verbatim media )
DVD Writeable Media: DVD-5 Size 4472 ( less compression )
Write Type: SAO
Check Booktype To DVD-ROM ( only for DVD+R/RW Media )

Protection
Check Everything

Re: Trouble Burning

Hi thwapy

In addition to the bullseye suggestions from maineman & jimbo, there is another problem:

08/06/2007 14:27:49 error Write error at 448 (16) - Code 06 29 00 [Unit attention, Power On or Bus device reset occured]

This could be a loose power cable on the motherboard or on the back of the drive. Could also be a problem with the IDE controller. This error was in more than one of the logs and would have resulted in an immediate coaster. Another Dell user reported that the DMA mode for the optical drive was disabled in the BIOS settings, so check that too.
