Special, on demand, closed caption?

I've tried several time to create a backup copy of Kill Bill vol. 1 and see an issue with what I will call 'on-demand' closed caption feature.

There is more that one scene (e.g. scene 10: The Man from Okinawa) where the characters begin dialog in Japanese. When I play the movie from the original disk there are closed captions that appear when the dialog changes.

Using Windows Media Player v11 when I play the movie from the disk the closed captions appear; when I play the move from the ripped VIDEO_TS folder there are no closed captions.

Am I missing something or is the a regrettable missing feature in all DVD backup software.

I have experienced this with DVDFab and DVD decrypter.

Re: Special, on demand, closed caption?

Hi CrazyMike
I don't have this disc so I can't check it, but DVDFab does not normally delete forced start commands for "translation" subtitles. The DVD to Mobile modes have a checkbox to include only the translations when making rips for iPod etc. In most of the DVD to DVD modes, all you should need to do is select the box for the correct subpicture. What mode did you use to process this title?

Re: Special, on demand, closed caption?

Hi crazyMike839,

What you talk about is called "Forced subpicuture".

For "DVD to DVD", DVDFab will not touch it, and it's still in the backup folder/disc.

For "DVD to Mobile", DVDFab has new option to only display forced subpicture, so that it will be same experience as DVD playback.

Return to your problem, do you copy "Full Disc" or "Main Movie"? do you remove the subpicture you want?

Best Regards,
Fengtao

I copied this movie in the full disk mode and used the movie setup to turn on the subtitles so when they spoke japanese I had the english subtitles show up
