some DVD+R DL won't play - Club CDFreaks

I’m encountering a strange problem with the latest version of DVDFab Platinum. Basically, I copy and burn the DVD, no error messages, and everything is fine, but then some DVDs would play only on my computer but not on the machine in my living room.

The problem is mainly occurring with the DVD-9 DL format. I’ve been using for some time the Verbatim DVD+R DL (8.5 GB), and only occasionally would a burned disk play on my computer, but not on my living room machine. More specifically, the performance was overall fine until May of this year, then I took the summer off, and when I came back I upgraded to the latest version, and now up to half of all DVD DL wouldn’t play on my living room machine.

I’ve kept DVDFab Platinum to its default preferences. I have a Dell Dimension running XP with a Philips burner. What is most bizarre is that this problem occurs only randomly—roughly half of all DVD-DL—not with DVD-5.

My advice would be to use +DL and booktype to dvdrom, that might fix the compatability issue.

huh? Give more info as what model of Philips you have and what firmware is on it when testing/burning these DL discs and by the way what is the media id of them?

I'm already using +DL booktyped by default to dvdrom.

The Philips is a DVD+RW DVD8701, works with a Microsoft driver 7/1/2001, version 5.1.2535.0. There's currently no update for the driver.

I don't know what media id is. The Verbatim DVD+R DL are made in India, and the command number is 95310.

Rip to HDD with Fab,then use IMGBurn in build mode to burn your DVD+R DL media at 8x-12x max....try it!.....what have you got to lose but another frisbee..

INTERESTING .... I'm having the same problem. I upgraded the software. However, this time, it came back and asked for entry of the key which is usually done automatically. Next, windows asks me if I want to run it everytime I try to open it. Next, I copy and get a confirmation that everything copied fine. Whether it is a regular DVD -R or DL +R, when I go to the DVD player ..... it reads unknown disk .... 2 different DVD players. If I open it on the computer, it will open and play. I'm totally confused. Has anyone from the software developer replied concerning this???

In "common settings > Write> check "set booktype to DVD-ROM for +R media"....And try with Verbatim media....
