Some DVD Player will not read DVD+R disc setting the booktype to DVD-Rom will trick the player to think the disc is a DVD-R disc, Thus making it more compatible

Re: Set Booktype question.

Many players are very picky and some older players will not play +R media. Booktype does not actually change the disc, but tricks the player into seeing the DVD as the format of original pressed DVD-ROM. All original movie DVDs are read as DVD-ROM. This does not work with or needed for Dash R media that is sold as -R which is the most compatable media with more players.

Re: Set Booktype question.

Thank you bigmac, I was always under the impression that DVD(+) media was the most compatible for DVD players.

Thanks again

Re: Set Booktype question.

Now I have a question? I've been using 16X +R and 8X -R (got a deal on them) Which is the best + or - when I buy again.

Re: Set Booktype question.

Thats a good question and I bet you will get many answers I myself use the + R's because my 112L will auto bitset them to DVD-ROM and if I use the 112D to burn with I always have it set to book type

As Jimbo said, there are many answers, the best of which is: use the one that works best with your DVD player. After 3 or 4 backups with each type you will know if one works better than the other. In many cases it makes no difference. It's more important to use quality blank media.

It all depend to your burner and you own experiences with using -R and +R.

Re: Set Booktype question.

Thanks for the input. I've always bought 8X & 16X+R until I found a deal on 8X-R's and bought a bunch. They seem to work better that what I'd been using. All are Verbatim.

Re: Set Booktype question.

I always use -R media. Some players will not play +r media. Prices are the same for both types.
