Question (I'm NEW btw)

I have been backuping up my collection for a couple years with dvdfab, I currently use (dvdfab platinum 3.1.2.6) ANd I usually use memorex's dvd-r but I was in the settings, and do I need to enable Set book type to DVD-ROM (only for DVD+R/RW media) And my burner is a Lite-on and it will burn on dvd+r but usually does not do a good job, it skips alot, so I like using my dvd-r blanks the most! btw, if I can get anymore help from anyone elses opions about anything else, it would be great.

Hi Jbrizzel and welcome to the forum
You do not have to set the booktype but it does make the disc more compatible with more DVDPlayers some do not read the +R type disc and this helps, also if you are having trouble with your Backup copies try reducing your burn speed down in common settings-->write this may help you can also get better results by using Verbatim brand blank disc

Hi, jbrizzel. No need to set booktype with -Rs, but you might want to select SAO writing in Common Settings-->Write. If the settings you have are producing good backups, I would leave them alone.

/EDIT/ Old & slow.

Re: Question (I'm NEW btw)

Oh also, I have it compressed to 4472 mb, is that good? It works for me all the time, but when I use to set it to 4.7gb to compress, it would always give me the error saying theres not any space left on disc, let me know what yall think! thanks.

Re: Question (I'm NEW btw)

I set my speed at 4X or 8X for DVD5s, and the default DVD size to 4464. 4472 is OK if you use only good quality media (Verbatim, TY) but pushing the envelope for the cheaper stuff. But if it has been working without coasters or video glitches near the end of the movie I would leave it alone.

around here memorex dvds are like mixing pills with alcohol, not recommended. but ive not really had any trouble with either.

i do prefer philips dvd+r, they are cheap (about 33 cents each for a 100pk) and my burner loves em.

Re: Question (I'm NEW btw)

I think people get confused when talking about cheap media when they need to refer to quality instead of price. 1st class media is highest quality, but can be found at lower prices than 2nd class. Verbatim and TY are both 1st class media. Memorex is 2nd class at best, but can be lower class because Memorex does not make any media, they rebadge other media. TY is the only brand that makes their own media and also sell to other brands. TY has a premium line and a value line, both can be purchased in bulk for 23 cents up even premium line for 25 cents. Verbatim has standards and more quality control on the media that they buy.

You have been lucky, please visit the following site for information on media. There was a time when Memorex bought quality media from Mitsubishi Chemicals so maybe you got an old batch.
