Question about dvd types

What is the best DVD media to use when making a copy ? ?
Should it be +R or -R media ? ?
I own a Sony DVD player Model #VP-NS715P
and it refuses to play copies made using HP DVD +R media.
Says the DVD is dirty which it is not. I don't have any -R media
to try and all options in DVDFAB are set to the defaults. When
I made my copy, I used a slow write speed (dvd will play fine in
a computer dvd drive) .. Also, is it really necessary to do a Write
Verify ? ? My pc runs at 1.8Ghz and it took 3 hrs to copy an 8GB
DVD to 2 single layer dvds.

Thanks for advice.

Re: Question about dvd types

Have you checked the option to have your +R media booktyped as Dvd-Rom?

Re: Question about dvd types

I think with the option to booktype the DVD+R to DVD-ROM it make is the most versatile.

The dvd brand is what matters. Use verbatim`s or taiyo yuden`s for best results. EDIT: If you use dvd+r then set booktype to dvd-rom. As for the write verify I not think it necessary to do as I never do it since it takes twice as long to finish.

Exactly.

Using good blank media removes that as a possible contingency for poor burns.

-R's are widely acceptable to most standalone players.

+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM also have proven to be very successful with some of the more picky players, IMO.

Re: Question about dvd types

Next time I open the program, I will look for that option.
I don't make many dvd copies as my burner, a Sony
DRU-530A can only do single layer DVD ... and currently
I have mostly HP DVD +R media and some Sony +R media.
I no longer have the orginal dvd. Can I make a new copy using
the 2 that I made from the original ?

Note: I have a Sony DVP-NS715P and the manual says it
can not do DVD-ROM .. so I do not know if setting +R to
that booktype will work with it.

Re: Question about dvd types

Myself I would get another burner you can get them fairly cheap now at Newegg.com or Meritline.com also Sony Media isn't very good as they don't make it just their name on it, There is a media forum on here and the most widely recommended is TY's or Verb's. Myself I always use +R's and my pioneers booktype them to DVD-ROM's. Yes you can make a copy from a copy, just copy it like you normally would copy a movie

Re: Question about dvd types

Here read this as it should play +R/+R DL without bitsetting to DVD-ROM > http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers/...vp-ns715p/1247

The problem must be your media and/or burner.

Re: Question about dvd types

The dvd player will work fine with a store bought
dvd. Just doesn't like +R when I use it to make a
copy. I have HP & Sony +R DVD media which should be
fine. I will try my next copy setting DVDFAB to DVDROM
booktype and see what it does. My burner is a Sony
and should be ok.

Hi 85,

Something does not sound right. I have many +r that are not book typed to dvd-rom. They play fine in my 3 stand alone dvd players. If specs of a dvd player shows that it plays +r media you should not have to book type to dvd-rom.

I would not try to start analyzing the player. If book typing works for OP let it be at that.
Each player like something of its own.

HEY UNCLE.... I am not trying to analyze the player. I am trying to prevent problems in the future. I say again.........if the specs of a dvd player states that it plays +r media it does not need to be book typed to dvd-rom. There is something else going on.
