DVDFab / DVD Region+CSS Free Discuss, Quality meaning? at Copy Movie forum; Hi, I have just purchased/registered Platinum 3.11.2 and am very happy with the program. I am a little confused at what the QUALITY setting actually means? Is it a compression setting or a better quality reproduction of the source?

Quality meaning?

Hi,

I have just purchased/registered Platinum 3.11.2 and am very happy with the program.

I am a little confused at what the QUALITY setting actually means?

Is it a compression setting or a better quality reproduction of the source?

Welcome to the forum. We are happy to have you as a fellow DVDFab user. The Quality percentage is a relative indication of the amount of compression to be applied to the selected titles. The lower the number the more compression and generally the lower or less satisfying the output video quality, but this is subjective and also depends on the bit rate of the original DVD. To anticipate your next question, I have had good results as low as 65% with some movies, but prefer to keep the number higher, above 80% if possible.

Re: Quality meaning?

Good advice by by my tag team partner, signals...
I don't like to go much below 80% on movies either. For TV series episodes, you can compress pretty darn far and be ok...it's TV right?
I once did a bkup of T2 down to 52 % as an experiment for another user. Darned if it didn't look and play great on a 32" screen...I wouldn't make a habit of this though...
