| Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory When I make a back-up DVD with Platinum and try to put it onto my DVD recorder it will play but will not allow me to store it on it's own hard drive. An uncopyable material type message comes up. I then tried it with another DVD player hooked up and same thing??? We have 7 children and DVD's become coasters in a flash so I have no problem putting the children's movies on a hard drive we can access and play on the TV. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated TIA! |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory Do all movies do this? Do you have the "Remove APS (Analog Protection System)" box checked in "Common Settings-->Protection" in DVDFab? What is the make and model of the unit that has the hard drive? |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory I need a little more information as I puzzle over this: In what country are you located? Do all backups display this problem? Do you still have the owner's manual for the recorder and if so, what disc types does it claim to accept (+R, -R, RWs, etc.)? |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory fishmeal Correct me if I am wrong here. 1 you say you can backup a dvd onto another dvd using dvdfab and that copied movie plays ok in your standalone player? 2 what you are saying is not working is that you are trying to copy the dvd movie onto the hard drive of your standalone dvd player/recorder. would this be correct? I think No 2 is what fishmeal is trying to do so that he has his movie on the hdd of his player/recorder and then play the movie from that hdd to the tv's around the house.

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory My experience with Sony DVD recorder is that I can copy movie only disks without any problem, but disks including a menu will not work. Also, take care of the language because only one language will be copied. |

I think this is a good suggestion and worth a try. @HUN Thanks. Can you tell or do you know if the player+HDD units copy analog to digital or digital to digital (when source is played in their internal DVD drive)? | |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory To clarify what I meant: Burn a backup in "Customize" mode and click the "no menus" button; select only 1 audio stream, etc. and try setting booktype to DVD-ROM in "Common Settings-->Write" if you're using +R media. |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory OK, i just tried a movie and it will play just fine but will not record it or dub it. It says, "copying of this materail is not allowed." I'm perplexed! It will play on it just fine?? I even tried running it through another DVD player with the same result. TIA |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory signal, it is digital, so no quality loss, but still it is done in real time with decoding-recoding and also pan&scan if required. fishmeal, what type of recorder do you have? One thing is sure: if you use FAB with main movie, the output will be just like a home video from the copyright point of view. So if your DVD recorder will not copy it to its HD it will not copy anything. |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory Yea, I'm pretty sad about not being able to do this.... It's a panasonic DVD/recorder with a hardrive of about 60 gigs. I imagine I'll cook something up with a computer later when I have the time. |

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory @ fishmeal The HDs in the DVD recorders are formatted different. Sometimes people try to take them out and copy the contents to their computer without success. When I get in better health and feel good I have plans to build my own unit using plans found on net. The Liteon 5005 Stand alone DVD recorder can be flashed so you can transfer old VHS tapes with microvision protection to DVD format. I don't think that those DVDs can be read by a computer. There is a section on CDFreaks main page that has section that has threads on Panasonic stand alones. Mack

| Re: Purchased DVD to My DVD/TV recorder With a hardrive memory Final bit of advice: Some DVD player/recorders will reject a disc that is region-free. Try either ripping again and leaving the region coding in or try burning a copy with DVDShrink, which lets you specify the region coding of the copy. |
