Problem when splitting DVD9

I've bought Spooks DVD which is of course in DVD9 format. As always, when I buy new DVD, first thing I do is making a backup. I tried to split this DVD9 into two DVD5. But one problem occurs - just before main menu appears, when displaying standard legal issues (about copying DVD and showing it in public) it is corrupted by one of the extras (about making of series) which is also playing at the same time. Does anybody know how to overcome this problem?
Thanks in advance

Re: Problem when splitting DVD9

Sounds like your player is trying to read both layers at once, since the extras are usually on layer 2. Disc could be defective. Have you tried it in another player?

I'm sorry, it seems that I wasn't clear enough. I split DVD9 into two DVD5. The problem occurs when I try to play one of the DVD5's (it doesn't matter which one, problem occurs on both of them). I forgot to mention that

I've never had that happen. If you have not deleted the temporary files, and if you have something that will play the VOB files, play one that would have come from each layer of the original DVD-9 and see if they are corrupted. Did the original DVD-9 play correctly on the drive that you used to play it back into the decrypter? If you still have the original DVD-9 I believe I would start over. Still sounds like there were hardware hiccups when the original DVD-9 was ripped. Intermingling of layer information is a laser focus issue, which depends on the distance between the reflective layer in the disc and the lens of the player and can be wrecked by: reflective layers not spaced properly on DVD-9, bottom plastic layer of DVD-9 too thick, crud in player, etc. etc. Good luck!
