Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

I am still using DVDFAB 4.0.6.2 which when I was running Windows XP PRO I had no problems copy to both DL and non DL DVDs both are Verbatim brand. Now the strange thing is since I upgraded to Vista I can still copy DVD+R just fine but when I go to try and do a full movie with menus and the works onto a DL (DVD+R DL) none of the stand-alone units recognize the DVD but the computer still does then I can edit the movie and fit it to a single layer but that is no good, for some of the movies...

IS VISTA CAUSING A CONFLICT WITH DVD+R DL?

I have 2 lite-on DVDs one Rom and the other DVD Multi recorder with lightscribe....

Like I said I had no problem copying to DL before switching to Vista 64 bit... anyone else have this issue?

Thanks in advance for any insight or ideas....(I copied down my old settings from DVDFAB before wiping out the Harddrives so I made sure all settings went back to how I had them when I reinstalled the program...)

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Guess I should add that I have been using the Verbatim +R DL and single layer for awhile now with the stand alones and no problems so I am pretty sure it is not the DVD's but maybe a conflict with Vista or a setting is off some how...

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Ok I finally upgraded to the 4.1.2.0 version of DVDFAB and still no luck I am not sure what is going on I have 6 coasters here on Verbatim and 3 Ridata.

I have tried everything from the recommended speeds to the slowest speeds and still not getting a single working DVD+R DL....I can burn perfect copies of just the movies on regular DVD+Rs. I am on Vista 64bit.

Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated....

We need more information. Please post a burn log of one of the failures. This will tell us the blank media, speed, how your drives are configured etc. Do you have any other tools (such as ISOBuster)?

No I have nothing else on the system to make duplicates...just this....well I did add Roxia full version this morning but was having problems well before adding that...

The DVD's are recognized in the computer but when I take them out and put in a stand alone nothing....I used to be able to make full working copies on DVD+R DL and have them work on the same stand-alones....the Verbatims are x16 and the ridata is 2.4x but I have tried all settings from max speed to slowest speed....

Does it keep the log for each individual burn? how do I go about getting into them?

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Brad
Your burn log shows a perfect burn. So does mine, but DL discs are not finalizing correctly with VSO burning engine. I suggest you download and install ISOBuster--it will tell you if a Track or Session is still open. I think it has a free trial period. I have gone over to ImgBurn for all DL burns. It is free and you should install it--you can use it from within DVDFab. Perfect DL burns every time. ImgBurn can sometimes correct the open element(s) and turn a coaster into a working disc.

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Hi riskman
Follow the advice I gave brad72. ImgBurn has worked very well for me and my LG drive after repeated problems with VSO. You can select ImgBurn as the burning engine in DVDFab Common Settings->Write if you have it installed. Your drive and situation may be different, but if the burn log shows all OK but you still get coasters, I think the problems are similar. Brad72 was using Verbatim blank media (among the best), if you are using something else, try a different brand. You could also post a burn log, it might show another problem.

Hi Bob
Nothing like a burn log (or as the Pale Rider said, "..a good piece of hickory").

I do actually remember now after you mentioned the ImgBurn having that on my system back when I had XP Pro...and also think I set the DVDFab to writing using Imgburn I will put it back on this computer as long as it will install with Vista 64bit and set it to write using it...

As for ISOBuster never heard of it...how can it manage to save a coaster if it is the problem as you stated above?

Thanks for the help so far....

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

IsoBuster is like magic to me. I have no idea how it works but it can read and recover stuff from almost any CD/DVD. Things that windows won't even read. Amazing, and handy for analyzing coasters. Hope that ImgBurn solves your problem. I think it will. If not, it's probably the drive.

You may be able to fix it with ImgBurn. I think it's: Tools->Disc->Close->Session. Doesn't always work.

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Just finalize (or close the disc). IsoBuster is a wonderful program and is outstanding at recovering files that were "unrecoverable", but I don't know that it can close a disc...I just have the freeware version.

As long as you used Fab, try this:

DVDFab Finalize a disc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right click on the Fab Icon >
Left click Properties >
Left click Find Target >
Left click PcSetup.exe >
Left click on the + in front of Patin-Couffin driver >
Now left click once to select your burner >
Right click on the selected burner >
Navigate to the bottom of the dropdown to Finalize the media

You should also be able to use Img to finalize the disc.

[Edit]
Hey pard, still typing at "turtle" speed here...lol

Looks like when I posted, part of the text was cut off...fixed now though

If you are using DL blanks, there is no reason you should be using the "Full Disc" option. You should be using the "Clone" option. (ImgBurn is also a "Clone".)

Not using the "Clone" option loses:
  • Layer break (for 2-layer originals)
  • Original file and volume dates and times
  • Original volume label (unless re-typed correctly)
  • Mastering info
  • "Short" disc ID
  • Anything not in VIDEO_TS (DVD-ROM content)

I have used the 'FULL DISC' option to dl+r using IMG BURN as the burning engine. IMG BURN will ask you where you want the layer break. Flawless

Some of the disadvantages of Full Disc that you listed are not (or no longer) valid. It will copy DVD-ROM content. The Disc ID is transferred in an xml file (ver5+). The original volume label normally pops up in the naming box (ver5+). And as I and others have pointed out, the layer break is really not an issue, especially with ImgBurn. What you lose in Clone mode is the powerful navigation re-authoring and disc cleaning that PathPlayer provides. I use Clone pretty much just for problem discs with odd features or authoring that the other modes don't handle well (not very often).

Re: Problem copying onto DVD+R DL but not DVD+R

Using the VSO engine on mine. After the successful burn box pops up my drives are still finalizing, 4 minutes later they stop.

This only happens on dual layer media.

Okay,
I dont have the burn log, but this is what I do have;
my burner is a Lite on DVDRW LH20A1P, I am using Windows Xp, I have tried DVD decrypter, no good, I finally got it saved to my hard drive and had to split the movie, (due to length) and all I got as a bunch or squares with a great audio? I have no video to speak of and two coasters.. !!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I am using Maxell DVD-R, and I also have tried Memorex DVD+R DL Double capacity, both of which i have now 4 coasters !!
