The Maxell is not the best quality blank media. If you have not already done this, update to version 5.0.1.2 of DVDFab. If you still have problems with DLs, download and install ImgBurn and select that as the burning engine in Common Settings->Write in DVDFab. Keep the burn speed at 2.4X or 4X on the Maxell DL media. A burn log would really help.Let us know how you make out.

That's why I keep asking for a burn log. But that being said, people whose opinion I respect have described them as crap. I have never heard them described as best but I'm sure they can produce acceptable results on some drives. Not sure media is the problem here anyway.

Bob, we may have to agree to disagree about this. When a Fab user has a problem that may be media related, I recommend something that is a known quantity and widely available at local stores, usually Verbatim for DLs. If you have to worry about the MID of the stuff you're buying, you're buying the wrong stuff.

but this person named Maxell DVD-R's and not Maxell DVD+/-R DL yes? And there are some pretty good Maxell's DVD-R's out there.

Hey ALL,
I have a similar issue to the thread name. However my issue is that the disc burns OK, no probs and it also loads and works...but to a point. Where the disc is supposed to change layer is the point that the drive light goes crazy and my program crashes (eventually), the same happens if you try to access something that is on second layer from the disc menu.

It has done this for numerous discs, not just one!

Things i have checked:
- ASPI - Everything working
- Firmware - Up-to-date
- Disc Supported by Drive - Yep works, plus no errors in burn anyway
- Software - been used by others successfully, so thats not it
- Finalisation - Session is closed
- Used space on disc - Well over DVD5 size, but under DVD9 size

Methods Used:
*1* Decrypted with DVD Decrpyter to ISO, then Burned using DVD Decrypter
*2/3/4* Decrypted with DVD Decrypter to File, then burned using:
- VSO ConvertXtoDVD
- Nero 7
- CloneDVD
*5* Used DVDshrink (no compression) to copy disc
*6* Used ImgBurn via a guide from this forum

ALL created a disc where second layer could not be accessed.

Any Ideas Anyone!

I forgot to mention i have also tried this on a second computer with another writer to the same end. I have also tried different discs to copy but it always ends up the same.

Well this is DVDFab forum and i don't see any mention of it. And i haven't had any problems with DVDFab Platinum. But i will not mention here what else i use at times.

What media are you using? What is the MID of the discs? What speed are you burning them at?

This is why signals and others like to see a burn log.

Yeh so i noticed!

DVD DL Discs Tried:
- Gigatain @ 2.4x
- RiDisc @ 2.4x/1.0x
- Philips @ 2.4x/1.0x
- TDK @ 2.4x

I'm not quite sure what the MID is? please elaborate, i am technical just not a genius quite yet.

Nero has a tool included in your Nero 7 called Nero CD-DVD Speed. Put a DL disc in the drive and fire that app up and click on the Disc Info tab. MID=Media ID.

You have an older drive and that might be it but if this happens on 2 pc's which i guess they have different drives i'd say it's a media problem. Unless any of those discs you have come up to be MKM001 or MKM003. Verbatim brand is really the only +R DL's recommended here. It's all i use and no problems here.

- Disc Manufacturer: RICOH
- MID: RICOHJPN D01

yeah see those are hit and misses. You might have a good one or two and then crappy ones....Some people have good luck with them but they are using newer burners with better write strategies in the firmware.

They work fine for data discs it's just for movies they never seem to work which seems pretty bizarre to me, as the layer can change for one type but not another!

Are these Verbatim costly?, i've heard of them!

Also the philips ones work ok on a standalone DVD recorder, so god knows if it is the dics that are the problem

ok now that you mention that it's the apps fault for not setting the layer break in the correct position. And i don't want to step on toes mentioning another app for you to try. This is the DVDFab forum. Platinum works fine here for DL's

Just to add if you try DVDFab Platinum and like it.......today is the last day to buy it and get free lifetime upgrades.

I don't wish to sound to critical but i would have thought it had to be something common to ALL the apps i have used and so having taken that into consideration will using DVDFab not result in the same problem...

i will try DVDFab anyway as it serves to diagnose the situation if nothing else, i do have a full-version of DVDFab but as to the version number i would have to route it out...what version would you recommend?, as some new versions don't always work

OK I have tried using DVDFab with one of Gigatain DL Discs and again to no avail. Although the part of the disc that could not be accessed before i.e. title 3 can now, only 1/2 of title 1 and even less of title 2 can't - leading me to believe that they are now on the second layer, leaving me back to square one.

Any new ideas...anyone!

Okay, I cant seem to get a burn log using the DFAB Platinum 4 or using the IMG burn. I have tried several attempts to burn a movie, Pirates of the carribean,at worlds end. The closest I got with software was 1 hour of uninterupted recording then it froze up on my DVD player. I have a Lite-on recorder, LH20A1P,firmware version 5.1.2535.0
I have not had any problems with it until this. I live in the US, region code 1. Is there any thing I can do to correct this. I cant even find a burn log for this?
