Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

I've sent several posts, and an email to Fengtao, but I have not gotten any responses, and this is very annoying!

Every time I try and rip a DVD, it takes 3-4 attempts and 10-12 hours to complete.

The program just slows down to zero and stops encoding, but keeps running, so there are no error messages!

I have a fast machine, lots of memory, and the latest software, and I am NOT burning to a DVD, so I don't know where to look, or if the DVDFab software just doesn't work . . .

I'm using DVDFab Platinum to rip DVD's to WMV files (XBox360 format), and splitting the Chapters.

This generates a list of tasks corresponding to each Chapter I'm ripping.

DVDFab seems to rip several chapters with no problem, but when I look at the Processing screen after a while, I see that it is in the middle of a task, but the Encoding Fps has dropped to Zero, and no progress is being made!

I have tried to pause and resume, or even Finish and start again, but to no avail! I have to quit DVDFab entirely and start it up again to get it to start processing again!

When I look at the log files, it just shows the last task running normally, and then "User Cancelled" when I finally gave up!

Any clues why it just stops encoding??? I've let it run all night to see if it starts again, but it doesn't . . .

This seems to happen around the 8th task or so . . . it rips a number of chapters successfully, and then just stops encoding . . . no error messages . . . just no activity.

Usually, the PC has nothing else running, but it doesn't seem to matter. I've tried two different Vista PC's, and I get the same result!

Can anyone offer some concrete suggestions?

It's still happening with the new Beta release!

I've narrowed it down- it happens on the 2nd pass- the progress gauge stays at 0.0%, and the encoding fps slowly drops from 60+ down to 0.

What is going on???

Thanks!

Re: Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

There are some other posts about converting slow with the xbox 360 profile, I will bet Fengtao and Ting will have it sorted out soon. It is not just you.

Re: Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

I don't really mind that it's slow . . . it's the fact that it won't finish any project that is disturbing!

Is that a known bug in DVDFab Platinum, or is it something I can fix, and how can I fix it?

Sorry for the long post, SJ I was trying to accumulate what I have discovered so far, so you would have enough information to offer some assistance . . .

Do you have PathPlayer enabled or disabled
dont think it is used during or for the convertion BUT if it is enabled it is used to read the disc and maybe the problem BUT not sure , I never use it and know nothing about it....but it is something to try

Re: Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

I had PathPlayer set to "Enable When Necessary", but now it's Disabled. That shouldn't have made any difference, but I'll check it tomorrow when I rip another disk.

Thanks for the tip . . .

Re: Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

I spoke too soon about rebooting fixing the problem. It did help the copying, but when I tryed to burn some movies off the HD it no work. Went back to 3.1.8.0 and they worked fine.

Re: Please Help!! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

Ting,

Thank you for your response. Sorry that your test has not produced results yet.

No, it is not any one special DVD. I have copied about 12 DVD's to hard drive, and every one took many times closing and reopening DVDFab Platinum before it finished encoding.

Each time I am able to encode 6-12 Chapters before it stops encoding. After a few chapters, encode rate drops to very low rate, then to zero.

I am encoding commercial DVD's to WMV using XBox 360 settings, Split By Chapter, best resolution possible, dual-pass encoding, on an HP Pavilion PC running Vista Home Premium, Athalon Dual Core 5000+ CPU, 2GB RAM, 400GB Hard Drive, running alone, not burning to disc.

Several times, the program has crashed and I sent report to Fengtao Software. Other times it just stops encoding, no error messages.

Ting, Fengtao- Have you found the problem here yet??

This is crazy- takes me the better part of a day to convert a single DVD to WMV, since I have to restart it every few hours after about 8 Chapters!

Thanks!
