Optical drives can't see...

Hello,

I’m new to CD Freaks and this forum so, "HELLO!"

First, I’m a hardware guy, not a software type but I try so please be patient.

My problem is as follows:

I was using DVD Decrypted to back-up movies that my children watched. Last week I tried to decrypt and although the movie seemed to download onto my secondary hard drive, then trying to burn using Roxie (easy creator suit 9), the burner/drive would lock up after a few seconds ruining the DVD-R. Then my computer would act…strange, almost groggy. I deleted the movie and things seemed better and I summed it up to a new type of decryption that DVD Decrypter didn’t convert any more. A friend talked me into buying DVD FAB platinum and after loading, the program doesn’t 'see' the movie to decrypt. When ‘clicking’ source, the area is blank, again not seeing the movie. If I manually ‘click’ the file to the target drive, nothing happens. As a matter of fact, I can’t watch movie on any of my optical drives. Has my registry been changed? I show no spy wear or viruses on my computer.

Your help in easy terms would be great.

~Chris

Re: Optical drives can't see...

Hello Chris130 and welcome to the forum. First, I would go into device manager and look to see if your optical drives show up there and if they are set to PIO or DMA. If they are set to PIO mode go back into common settings in DVDFab and click reset DMA and see if that helps. I sort of doubt if it will, but you can give it a try first. When that or if that doesn't help, go back into device manager and manually uninstall your opticals and reboot your PC. They should reinstall automatically. Check your setting and make sure they are set for DMA mode. I've heard that Roxio doesn't play well with others. You might have to make sure it's off when you use Fab Plat. or uninstall it completely. You don't need it if you are using Platinum anyway. Try this and see if it helps. Good Luck. ~ Mike

Re: Optical drives can't see...

Hi Chris130 and welcome to cdfreaks,

Hard to say what happened without some details, so it's a little tough to nail down any specific help.

Here's what I'd do.
Download DVDFab Platinum 3.1.1.3 Beta: (just click on the link) and install this version.
Uninstall your optical drives from device manager and reboot your system.
XP (is this your os?) will reinstall your optical drives and assign the appropriate drivers.

If this doesn't work, we're gonna need some specifics from you.

Let us know...

Hope this helps.

Hey Mike, great minds think alike, huh?...or maybe it's senile minds...

Re: Optical drives can't see...

Hey Chris, yes it's probably happened a lot in one way or another. Just make sure your pc see's your opticals and that they are set to the DMA mode and people have had problems with Fab and Roxio so beware. Good Luck and let us know how you make out ok! If there are still issues, then we'll work on them. ~ Mike

Re: Optical drives can't see...

Hi Chris. You've had some good advice from my friends here already, and I think maineman's procedure will probably fix it. IF not, you might try chenging the I/O control setting in Common Settings-->Read from Auto to SPTI using the drop down selector. What is your operating system?

Re: Optical drives can't see...

I have a Dell that came installed with Roxio so that explains why I've had the same issue. My workaround was to insert the DVD first, then start up DVDFab.
