| Opening Backup DVD on Computer I am using DVD Fab 4.0.6.2 and cannot read a DVD after I have backed it up on a disc with any computer. I use Fab for both copying to the hard disc and for recording to the DVD. The disc will play in the DVD player, but not in the computer DVD player. I am using Memorex DVD+DL media. I have not had this trouble before, and it started with the newer version of DVD Fab that was updated the past two version. Any help would be great. Thanks. |

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer Hi nwchicago2, I realize that you said nothing has changed except your version of Fab, but that may not be true. Memorex is totally unrealible media...you never know what you'll get...even within the same spindle. My guess is these are Ritek D01 and are crap...nothing personal. We'll need some specifics (eg., burner, firmware, MID, etc.), most of which can be found in your burn log. Please post a few logs. The default location is: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

I burn at whatever speed the drive will go at. The fastest I have seen with the Memorex Media is 2.3X I have been multitasking when burning. I normally try and burn with two FAB windows so I can record two discs at once. I would assume that you belive this may be a problem. If I remember correctly although....this has not been a problem for me previously. I play the discs on the same computer...and drive. What is transpiring is after I record it, I try and open the disc but it says there is nothing there. I can then take it to my DVD player and it plays just fine. I have one generic burner...and three sony's.

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer well turn on verify in common settings - then fab will read back the disc that it has just burned - from the same drive & will tell you immediatly if there are any errors. Don't multitask when burning, just walk away from the PC for 1/2 hour & don't leave OUtlook running. what happens with the "failed" discs if you put them back in the PC and explore the contents with windows explorer ? |

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer you'vr burned them too quickly - your most recent burns according to your log were at over 8x, oder ones were slower. e.g. /23/2008 8:41:26 AM info Write finished in 00:13:06 - Finalization start here. Avg. burn rate 8.33 2/22/2008 7:54:41 PM info Write finished in 00:14:43 - Finalization start here. Avg. burn rate 4.11 2/21/2008 8:54:56 PM info Write finished in 00:22:35 - Finalization start here. Avg. burn rate 2.68 so in 2 days you've quadrupled the burn rate ! maybe your dvd player is very tolerant of poor burns and so can still read the discs but your PC can't. so burn at 4x or at 2,4 & enable verify, & see if that solves the problem. could be that when you burned 2 at once, each one went slowly & worked, but now that you are multitasking less, your burner can't keep up. |

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer cybmole Sorry dont think burning at 8x is the problem since I and many others burn at that speed, may just be an issue with the reader with in the drive itself. I would first try uninstalling the drive in device manager and let windows re-install it, and if that does not work then I would go to the next possable fix

I have seen ripped rated as high as 8x though. I will check this out and see what I can do to slow it down to 2. However, I don't think that is the problem but am willing to give anything a chance at this point. Thanks

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer PS, with the last couple of burns in your log, you are trying to write almost 8GB, which is close to the limit of what a blank DL can hold. So you are writing right up to the end of the disc, which is where cheaper media often fail. Your earlier burns were smaller files. using customise rather than full disc to trim some unwanted languages & extras may help. |

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer Hi again nwchicago2, Appreciate you posting the burn logs. One of the problems with trying to interpret the data is that you have so many variables... 3 burners: sony DRU-840A (supposedly DL burns supported up to 12X) sony DRU-830A (up to 8x) samsung TS-H652L (up to 4X) (I haven't looked at your respective firmwares.) Cybmole mentioned that your burn speeds are all over the place... ![]() The media is really the only consistent item and the reliablity (consistency) of Ritek S-04 is poor, so unfortunately, this is a variable too. Do you have many of these S-04 discs left? Do any of the discs displayed in your log play ok in your pc? Do all of them play in your standalone player? The only error that I saw pop up was with the samsung...an illegal address...only writing a 4.26 GB file to DL media, the LB located at 3.13 GB? As others said, highly recommend buying Verbatim +R DL For 2.4X - 4X (MKM 001), be certain to look on the label....it needs to be MIS = made in singapore and not MII = made in India = crap Verbatim +R DL 8X...to 10X (MKM 003) are only MIS so these are ok I've had trouble finding the MKM 001 MIS so I've sucuumbed to buying the MKM 003 myself. I've had good luck burning these on my samsung 203B at 8X, but required some experimentation on my part, no surprise there... ![]() Interestingly, I can't get MKM 003 to burn suuceessfully on my liteon LH-20A1S which had been rock solid with MKM 001 at 4X. For now, I'd stay with the 840A, especially for the faster DL media (MKM 003) and burn these at 6-8X, 8x is fine, but select it as your burn speed. Don't let the software choose. If you find some of the MKM 001 MII, choose 4X for your burn speed.

| Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer Just a bit of a follow up on the advice I received here. I stopped multi-tasking and continued to use the same media. Media that is being used is the Memorex. I could not dump these as I had another 100 left. I have been using a internal Sony DVD burner with speeds going up to 8x. This had provided no problems for me and I am able to open the disc right after backing up.. I will have to try and use one of the externals that I had problems with and see if these are good back ups as well. Thanks for the advice |

media id: Ritek S0-04-01 the nrew media they used in the 25 & 50 cakeboxes are Ritek S0-04-42 (but some burners picked em up as S04-066 which is wrong if u check with VSo's inquiry util.. i too purchased 100 of these and was sent and extra 50 by memorex. i've tried 5 different burners non write the media correctly. Lite-on LH20A1H LLOD firm Samsung TTSTCorp SH-203N, SH-203B (both with latest firmware) Pioneer DVR-215D 1.18 firm SonyNEC Optiarc AD-7200A-01 still trying 2 find an answer. Memorex techs say their burner burns this media but i dont think they know what they are talking about and i'm not ready 2 spend 99 buxs 2 find out.. any solutions would be appreciated. i tried adding using tools like mediacodespeed edit to modify (add) the S04-042 but no dice..
