Your right, the labeler is for lightscribe discs. Can't wait to see what happens. Thanks for your help. What did you think of the TDK log? Why would I be able to burn TDK but not lightscribe Memorex or HP?

It hasn't been a problem for me. As maineman said, you can try uninstalling it and see the results. If it came installed on your pc, check and make sure it is listed in your Application Recovery Program and if you installed from a disc and still have it than you can reinstall it again later. It may also contain your lightscribe burning program. People also say that Roxio is hard to get rid of but there is a program for that.
PS, I'm Ron and Welcome to the Forum
Thanks for the warm welcome....your right, Sonic MyDVD Deluxe came preloaded on my system. I had to burn my own backup discs. (Aren't they only windows system recovery discs ) I reviewed each one in explorer, but didn't see any reference to Sonic files. I have a partitioned HD with a "recovery side". However, I don't know how to snoop around in there.....couldn't get it top fully open....don't want to mess anything up. How else can I check to make sure that I have a copy of Sonic to reload if I have to? If I uninstall all Sonic components except the labeler through add/remove programs, how can I tell if I got it all.....If I didn't, what is the program that you referenced?

Re: No media/no writable media Pls help the newbie!!

I'm not sure about the lightscribe discs unless you are maybe putting them in upside down, i.e. with the brown side down. The drive firmware has to recognize the media, and apparently it doesn't for some reason. The log clearly shows why your burns take so long, though:
4/22/2007 5:46:24 AM info DMA Disabled
It also shows that you were up way too early fooling with drives and DVDs.

No they are in correctly. I tried burning the label side just to see how it would look and it burned perfectly. I have already reset the DMA through FAB and it continues to periodically disable. What exactly does resetting the DMA do....should I limit how many times I do it? Up all night is more like it...hahha

Hi Penny
Not sure what Brand your PC is BUT if you have a HP Pavilion then you can check on the Start menu and put your pointer on Hewlett-Packardand you will or should see HP Pavilion Tools put your pointer on it and then you will see Hp Application Recovery the app's that you are talking about should be listed there for recovery

Nothing funny about up all night! Resetting DMA changes the way windows allows the drive to communicate with your PC. Windows does this when it detects errors in the data the drive is sending. The fact that this keeps happening is of more concern. Forcing Windows to reset the mode to DMA won't hurt anything at all though.

You can get to Application Recovery by Clicking on Start> then All Programs> then HP Help and Tools> then Application Recovery. Choose Application Installation then click Next, Look for Record Now or Sonic or something like that. If you find it then you should be able to get it back once you delete it from the Add and Remove Programs, program. Should be able to.
Verbatim makes Litescribe discs which I would try. Iknow for sure they make CDs and pretty sure DVDs.
I have lightscribe but prefer using Paper lables such as Memorex which comes with software (Very inexpensive and produces color lables)

I have a HP Pavilion a1650Y desktop (Pentium D CPU 3.40 GHz 3.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM) with XP Media Center 2002 SP 2.
I don't see what you're referencing. I did find something in All Programs - Pc Help & Tools - HP Application Recovery. But it is a app & driver recovery wizard. How can I view the info. that it would "recover"

If you click on HP Application Recovery you will be given a choice to recover Drivers or Applications you want to choose Applications and it will show you app's that you can recover see if RecordNow or any of the others are there

That was fast...you posted before I could get back. Thanks, I found it I also found a PC Recovery tools CD that I haven't burned yet. I have only done System Recovery Discs. I'm backing up my little boy's movie collection. I'm afraid if I use paper labels he will prematurely wear them off and cause them not to play correctly. I was hoping to burn pictures of the movie characters on the front instead. What's the point of having a lightscribe if you can't play with it....right He got a kick out of the Chicken Little one that I did. I can't get the movie on it but the label looks good

Re: No media/no writable media Pls help the newbie!!

I uninstalled InCD and all of the Sonic components except for the labeler. I still can't burn to HP DVD+R 16x Lightscribe. "No media inserted. Please insert a compatible media to start the write". I also reset the DMA again through FAB. Should I uninstall the optical drives and run the resetdma.vbs file linked to Maineman's sig now?

I have gone over the thread and have noticed that you tried to find an firmware update for your burner which you was unable to find one I have also noticed that the burner you said is not an HP burner
Can you tell me exactlty the brand name and model and I will do a search to see what I can come up with because I think this is where the problem is because you are able to use TDK Disc's which means your burner is seeing blank media but not all types
