When you are doing a backup do not have any programs running in the background and also don't use the INTERNET. I know some members do use the INTERNET while doing a backup BUT there systems are set up different then yours and until you work out the kinks in your system try doing what I said above

Re: newly purchased dvdfab

Hi whatever and welcome to the forum. I have to echo the comments of Jimbo and stormjumper as far as the settings being the optimum for DVDFab. I haven't burned a coaster since xmas with them.It sounds like you are having other issues influencing your write process. I personally had a hard time with maxell media with bad burns, but the clean uninstall/install may help a lot. Good Luck ~ Mike

PLEASE note the write speed is for DVD5 (SL) disc's,
DVD9 (DL) will be slower due to Disc max write speed, which in this case you may be prompted by DVDFab to select a write speed for the DVD9 (DL) when you use them, the slower the burn the better.
For a better understanding on why burning slower is better please read

What do these settings do for you? Ive been using w/e the default is at install and have no problems yet. Should I change my settings or just leave them alone?

These setting will give you a good burn with no trouble but if the ones you are using (default) and it works for you then they are good, but try them if you like as you can always go back to the default settings Also welcome to the forum

Hi Scott
if you are not having a problem with the default settings then keep the setting as is,
Packet writing is good for burning data but sometimes it will not finalize (close) the disc
Booktype is good for making the disc more compatible with DVD Players
and writing at a slower speed helps resolve problems during Playback on DVD Player

Bad news, Good News, and more good news. The Bad News is: I still can't burn a disc using DVDFab Platinum. The good news is: I was able to merge and shrink my bought DVD of Wonder Woman Season 1 to a ISO file with DVDFab Platinum, that I then burned to a DVD using CloneCD on one of my DVD+RW, and it plays on my DVD player!! (By the way, for each experiment I did on all of my DVDs, I made sure that I wasn't online .) And finally, the 3 coasters that I had weren't coasters at all, just that the software didn't burn anything to them at all , so I was able to burn using CloneCD and it also worked on my DVD player !!

So, for whatever reason, the burning software with DVDFab doesn't work with my PC, but it is able to create ISO images. I'm going to still test the software, and hopefully find out why I can't burn DVDs.

When you are trying to do a backup with DVDFab is there a program running in the background

No programs, only my firewall (EZ Armor) and antivirus programs (EZ antivirus). Everything else is shut down, using msconfig, so for example, GoogleToolbar isn't running while I'm not using it.

Re: newly purchased dvdfab

By the way, the ISO files created by DVDFab Platinum, when they are burned are just as good as when I used AnyDVD with DVDShrink or CloneDVD2 with or without DVDShrink.

So, for the record, I would recommend DVDFab Platinum to buy, but I wish they would come out with a FAQ file, or a 'How to' file with the software, so that newbies like myself can learn how to navigate it.

I don't see it on msconfig.

What would it look like (i.e. what would be the name in msconfig)?

Re: newly purchased dvdfab

By the way, DVDFab Platinum doesn't start up automatically when Windows XP Pro SP2 boots up with my PC. (In fact, I don't see it listed anywhere with msconfig). I have, as I stated before, disabled AnyDVD and CloneCD from starting up when my PC boots up.

DVDFAB doesn't start up when you boot up and you are correct it isn't in msconfig so don't worry about that

Do me a favor ..right click on "My Computer" and click on "Properties" then click on the "Hardware" tab and then click on the button that says "Device Manager"
Scroll down to the bottom of the list and see if there is an entry for VSO devices.....and double click on it to see if pcouffin device is listed

I was busy yesterday with other stuff, so I've just gotten back to this discussion.

Yes, pcouffin is listed in Device Manager.

:-)

But, if it's important, the driver isn't digitally signed. Hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of this soon.

Re: newly purchased dvdfab

I can make ISO files with DVDFab, which is a success, for part of the software.

However, I still have to use Nero because I can't use pcouffin at all to burn my disks!!

What's going on??

:-(
