Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

Maybe the external DVD player is configured to display subtitles automatically? Enclosed captions I think is different.

Thanks all for your input!!
i use powerdvd v7 a lot from hard drive & don't get that problem. My subtitles default to "off " in powerdvd but I can select "english" to turn them on while the file is playing. my rip settings are to include only English subtitles. I can't see anyhting in powerdvd config menus that would give subtitles by default.

can you toggle your subtitles on-off OK with powerdvd OK once a dvd copy is playing from hard drive?
?

Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

My standalone players are not configured to play subs and if I turn off subs in dvdfab I don`t get any subs when needed eg. if parts of the film need subs. If nero recode can do it then I think dvdfab should be able to do it its just selecting the wrong subs as default.

Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

Powerdvd I'm sure that the read it clearly option in powerdvd 7 is causing this problem for you. If I enable that feature, then subtitles are always on - if I disable it, then they are not. Q.E.D.

standalones. subs will not show on dvdfab output dvds unless you've selected them to be forced on or have always on in your standalone player settings - read the earlier advices about the green arrow. If there was a bug in DVDfab we'd all be able to reproduce the problem & that aint the case.

Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

I get the same problem as some of the others on here regarding DVDFab Platinum's subtitles showing by default when they shouldn't. As an example:

In DVDFab Platinum 4.1.0.2 I'll rip and burn a DVD (in either Main Movie or Customize mode) and ensure that any subtitles selected are not on by default -- i.e., no little green arrow. When playing on my Toshiba standalone player the first subtitle will always display by default.

I burn the same DVD with DVDShrink, select the same subtitles and ensure they are off by default (right-click the main movie title and specify in "Set Default Streams" to hide the subpicture), then no subtitle displays by default on my Toshiba.

Currently I have DVDFab set to select only one language of subtitles (English) by default so I'll try the suggestion of changing that, and I'll also try the other suggestion of checking my Toshiba's default subtitle display settings. But regardless of this, it seems that DVDShrink is doing something to tweak the DVD's subpicture default to 'off' which DVDFab is not.

Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

There is a menu setup on my Pioneer DV400S standalone for subtitles that I had to turn off from the menu to make it quit doing this. Turning them off from the remote only worked until the machine was restarted the next time or another movie put in.

Re: movie only and sub titles on automatically

Hi,
I just did a copy of Rendition which is English but with parts in Arabic I turned off all subs except English normal & it worked. So it seems selecting normal will give subs when needed.

With some DVDs this is true. Others have another English subpic that contains the translations.
